Arianna

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, the sunlight filtering through the curtains. Today was the day I was supposed to go for a run with Travis, and I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. I stretched and got out of bed, quickly getting dressed in my running gear—shorts, a sports bra, and a light jacket.

After tying my hair into a ponytail, I headed downstairs and grabbed a quick breakfast. I texted Travis to let him know I was on my way and then left the house, feeling the cool morning air on my skin. When I arrived at the agreed meeting spot, I saw Travis waiting for me.

"Hey, Travis," I called out, jogging up to him.

"Hey, Arianna," he replied with a smile, though something about his demeanor seemed different today. He seemed a bit distracted.

We started our run, keeping a steady pace. The conversation flowed easily at first, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. After a while, we decided to take a break. I pulled out my water bottle and took a long drink, noticing that Travis was staring at me.

"Do I have something on my face?" I asked, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand.

Before he could respond, I felt the first few drops of rain. Within seconds, it started pouring. Travis looked up at the sky, then back at me.

"We're close to my house," he said. "Let's run there and get out of this rain."

I nodded, and we took off running again, the rain soaking us through by the time we reached his front door. Travis fumbled with his keys and finally got the door open. We hurried inside, dripping wet.

"This is the first time I've been to your place," I remarked, looking around the cozy interior.

"Yeah, sorry it's under such soggy circumstances," Travis replied with a chuckle. "Let me grab you a towel."

I stood there, shivering slightly from the cold rain, and watched as he disappeared down the hallway. The house was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the weather outside. Travis returned a moment later with a couple of towels.

"Here you go," he said, handing one to me. "You can dry off in the bathroom over there."

"Thanks," I said, taking the towel and heading to the bathroom. I dried myself off as best as I could, grateful for the warmth of the towel. When I emerged, Travis was already in the living room, drying his hair.

"Feel better?" he asked, glancing over at me.

"Much," I replied with a smile. "Thanks for the towel."

"No problem," he said, his tone softening. "Sorry about the rain. I didn't check the weather forecast."

"It's okay," I said, sitting down on the couch. "This is kind of nice, actually."

Travis sat down next to me, and for a moment, we just sat there in comfortable silence. I could feel his eyes on me again, and I turned to look at him.

"Travis, is everything okay?" I asked gently.

He hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah, just... thinking."

"About what?" I prompted, curious.

He looked away, his expression thoughtful. "Just life, I guess. Things have been a bit complicated lately."

I nodded, understanding all too well. "Tell me about it."

We sat there, talking about everything and nothing, the rain pattering against the windows. It was a simple, quiet moment, but it felt significant. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something had shifted between us.
