Meredith was resting a bit on the couch until the door opened

"Hey, someone was very excited to go home." Christopher chuckled as he walked inside and saw Meredith sitting with her legs elevated but spasming

"Mama! Is my room ready?" Ellis asked, running up to her bedroom

"Yes sweetie, go take a look with Carolyn and Christopher." Meredith said and made a final attempt to calm her legs down before she got into her wheelchair

"Are you okay?" Christopher quickly asked her as Carolyn followed Ellis inside

"Of course." Meredith said and wheeled up to Ellis' bedroom. "How do you like it, princess?"

"Mama! -mazing! Thank you!" Ellis giggled and ran from her bed straight into her mom's arms

"You're welcome, sweetie. I'm glad you like it." Meredith gave her a tight hug. "Show Derek the slide."

"Dewek! Look!" Ellis giggled and climbed up the second bed and used the slide she was so excited about

"Wow, that looks fun! I wish I could use it as well!" He winked at the girl

"You too big!" Ellis giggled

"Do you want some coffee?" Meredith asked Carolyn and Christopher in the meantime

"We'd love some, I'll help you out." Christopher said, seeing how bad Meredith's legs were spasming a lot and he was scared she'd burn herself

"Thanks." Meredith said and together they made their way out to the kitchen, Meredith started running the coffee while Christopher got cups for them

"Did you have PT?" He asked carefully

"Yeah, it was an exhausting session." She nodded softly. "How are you and Carolyn? I hope Ellis was being good."

"She's amazing, Meredith. We love her endlessly." Christopher's smile grew so wide

"She also loves you guys so much. I'm glad she has all of you." Meredith smiled and finished the first two cups of coffee, Christopher already bringing them to the table

"We'll always be here for both of you." He said

"Here we go." She said as the other two cups were full

"I'll grab these, I assume Ellie will want some apple juice." Christopher chuckled. "She has been begging for it all day."

"I'll get her some apple juice." Meredith smiled and filled Ellis' favorite cup, placing it in the cupholder while wheeling up to the couch

"And guess what I got." Carolyn smiled and opened a can of her own made cookies and put it on the table, chuckling as everyone, even her husband, hurried to grab a cookie

"Best cookies ever." Meredith smiled widely and stayed in her wheelchair because her left leg kept going up and down, luckily not that noticeable so she leaned on it in an attempt to make it stop

"Why don't you lay down on the couch for a bit?" Carolyn softly suggested, knowing Meredith could be stubborn

Meredith was thinking and decided to indeed get on the couch. The transfer was rough, her legs were acting up but Carolyn placed a pillow underneath her knees and finally they stopped, the discomfort in her back getting better instantly

"Thank you." Meredith whispered

Carolyn smiled and handed over Meredith's cup of coffee which she sipped from, then placing it down on the table next to the couch

Derek was watching her behavior. He wished he could help her as a neurosurgeon but there's not much to do against a complete spinal cord injury

"Mama, can we do a sleepover in my bed?" Ellis' eyes went wide

Carolyn and Christopher both looked at Meredith, unsure of what she would say

"Oh sweetie.." Meredith muttered. "We'll see later, okay?"

"But-" Ellis started

"We'll see later, honey." Meredith said sadly

"I really like your room, Ellis!" Derek smiled, trying to change the mood again. "Aunt Addie will be here soon, I think she'll be jealous."

"Aunt Addie said I need a treehouse." Ellis giggled

"I agree! I also want one on the land I bought." Derek kept his conversation going

Christopher squeezed Meredith's hand softly, seeing how hard this was for her

"I gotta use the toilet-" Meredith muttered and got into her wheelchair

Christopher and Carolyn looked at eachother, knowing Meredith loves to escape situations where she feels like she's a dissapointment

"I gots to see!" Ellis giggled

"We'll ask your mommy later on." Derek nodded

...

A few hours later Meredith had finished bathing Ellis. The girl kept begging Meredith for a sleepover in her new bed and Meredith had given in, unable to say no as Ellis had been crying, saying she was so proud of her bed

"Come on, honey. Go say night night to everyone." Meredith said and cleaned up the bathroom

"Be nice for mommy." Mark hugged the girl. He didn't like the idea of Meredith not sleeping in her own bed, knowing how badly she adjusted to another mattress

"We gots to tell stowies!" Ellis giggled and jumped into Addison's lap, hugging her auntie tightly

"And come get us if there's anything. I love you, little bug." Addison kissed Charlotte's head

"Night night, Dewek!" Ellis giggled

"Are you ready, monkey?" Meredith wheeled inside, absolutely exhausted after today

"Yes mama!" She ran towards her bedroom

"Night night." Meredith said to the others

"Are you sure it's a good idea?" Mark asked her, not wanting to be rude but he was really worried

"Mark, please don't-" Meredith muttered and wheeled off to Ellis' room and closed the door

"Mama! Come!" Ellis giggled

Meredith had looked for a bed she could easily get in and out to change the sheets or to cuddle with her daughter so she got herself in pretty easily but the second she laid down she felt her legs protesting. The mattress started shaking and she immediately knew it was her lower body that started spasming again but she wanted to ignore it, she wanted to ignore it all. She turned on her side, a pillow in between her knees and decided to listen to Ellis' chatter

Flashback

Meredith was laying down on the bed in rehab. She was crying as she missed Finn and Ellis, she had never felt this lonely before. Her back was sore, her arms were sore and she couldn't move herself at all so she was stuck there. Mark had called earlier that he'd stop by as soon as he finished his surgery and of course she hadn't said how she felt, she had said all was 'fine'

Mark promised her he'd come over as soon as he could, but she didn't know he had an amazing surprise for her, or at least he hoped it'd be amazing.
