"Kisses mama! Wuf you!" Little Ellis hugged her mom tight as Derek had dropped off Meredith at the hospital, he and Ellis insisting they wanted to wait with her

Meredith had packed her bag, mentally checking everything again.

She was wearing her soft spinal brace for extra support since she'd operate from her own chair in the other hospital, only here her own chair would be ready. She had a large catheter for surgery and the flight, she wore compression socks for her legs, her meds were packed and she always brought a tiny picture of Finn and Ellis along with her

"I love you so so much, my little princess. Mommy will be home tomorrow, we can have some fries then." Meredith kissed her daughter's forehead

"Yess!" The girl giggled

"I love you, take care." Derek kissed Meredith on her lips

"That's yucky!" Ellis giggled

"I promise you that it's not yucky at all, I like your momma a lot." Derek giggled and kissed Meredith again before pulling her in a hug

"I'll miss you.. I love you." She whispered, feeling vulnerable but so warm in Derek's arms

"I love you too. Call us whenever you have some time, you'll do great." He smiled softly

"Come on, Grey. We gotta leave." Bailey announced

"Bye, love you." Meredith waved and gave her daughter a final kiss before she disappeared into the elevator

"Doctor Grey, can we lift you in?" The pilot asked

"Yes, place me in the seat, please." Meredith quickly grabbed her stuff and waited

"Secure her chair well." Bailey said and got in next to Meredith, the chopped left quickly

Meanwhile Derek and Ellis had hurried outside to wave at the helicopter as it flew away

"Are you comfortable?" Bailey asked Meredith

"I'm fine." Meredith said, using her arms for extra stability, glad she was tightly strapped in but her legs were swaying a little

Bailey softly stroke her hand over Meredith's arm as the flight continued. After a while they landed safely, both were really happy to be back on the floor. The two pilots had helped Meredith out and were gonna fuel up the chopper and return when the surgery had finished

Meredith and Bailey headed inside the elevator that would take them down to their patient

Meredith could see the stares as she wheeled through the hallway, trying not to care about it. She and Bailey immediately went to scrub in after they saw the scans, hoping this would all go well..

After about 6 hours of surgery they were close to being able to scrub out and transport their patient but Meredith was tired, she hadn't slept and had been awake for more than 24 hours now, exhausted as she had played with her daughter all day

"Meredith?" Bailey called out her name

"Yes?" Meredith looked up from the sink

"Are you okay?"

"Just tired, I'm fine." Meredith quickly said, her back annoying her from operating like this, luckily they had been able to lower the table enough because Bailey also isn't tall

The two continued and waited to see if their patient was stable

"Can I call El and Derek really quick?" Meredith asked Bailey

"Go ahead." She nodded softly and watched as Meredith wheeled out, heading to a quiet spot

"Hey Mer!" Derek picked up, they were using their cameras

"Hi.. is Ellis around?" She asked right away

"Mama!" Ellis giggled

"Hi my little princess, how are you behaving?" Meredith asked

"I'm good! Wright Dewek?"

"Yes, very good." Derek smiled. "How did your surgery go?"

"Did you save them?" Ellis asked with wide eyes

"Yes, now we gotta bring him safely to Seattle. They're still doubting to go by ambulance but it will take way too long." Meredith explained

"You're a hero, mommy! The bestest doctow!" Ellis smiled

"Thank you, monkey. I'll be back before you go night night."

"Mama, gots to show you something!" Ellis ran off

"Did it go smoothly to operate from your chair?" Derek asked

"Yeah, glad I'm wearing my soft brace but it works, I can't complain." Meredith said, although that wasn't completely honest but not really a lie either. She'd explain to Derek in person

"Go rock it, Mer! You can do this!" Derek smiled as Ellis ran back to them

"Look! My new stuffy!" She showed her mom

"You got a new stuffy?" Meredith pretended to gasp, smiling at her daughter who was still wearing pajamas as she had just woken up

"Dewek gave me pwesent!" Ellis giggled

"Derek is way too good for you! Did you thank him already?"

"Yes!" Ellis giggled and flew around Derek's neck. "Thank thank Dewek!"

"You're welcome, little one." He smiled, a single tear leaving his eye and quickly wiping it away so no one would notice

"Doctor Grey? Doctor Bailey is asking for you." One of the nurses said, staring Meredith down from tim to toe

"I gotta go, love you princess. I love you, Derek." She waved and hung up, putting her phone back in her pocket and wheeling off
