Meredith was working, she had decided to try as head of general, she wanted to do this job but her only worry was her daughter

Suddenly someone knocked on the door of her office

"Yes come in." She said and looked up

"Hey, it's me." Derek walked inside

"Hi." Meredith smiled widely, wheeling up to him and grabbing his hand

"Can I- Can I kiss you?" Derek asked softly, not wanting to overstep

"Y-Yeah." Meredith nodded, closing her eyes as Derek kissed her. It felt horrible and amazing at the same time

"Are you okay? If it's too soon-" Derek wanted to say but she interrupted

"Almost feels like I'm cheating.." She muttered. "But I can't say I don't like kissing you."

"I'm sorry, I can't even imagine how this is for you." He hugged her gently

Meredith pulled at his hands and kissed him softly

"I am not cheating. Loving you has nothing to do with my love for Finn." She nodded

"Still you decide about our pace, only you." He kissed her hand and smiled

"Thank you, Derek." She nodded until she got paged. "Sorry, gotta go."

"Go, I'll come find you later." He smiled and watched as she hurried towards the OR

"Doctor Grey, your wheelchair is ready." Bokhee told her and helped Meredith into her surgical clothes after she scrubbed in

"Thank you, Bokhee." Meredith smiled from underneath her mask and headed inside in her surgical wheelchair, starting the emergency surgery right away

A few hours later Derek was watching her from the gallery. He smiled as he saw her determined to help the young woman that was laying down on the table

"Jackson, can you close for me, please?" She asked as she finished. She wouldn't mind closing but she was in discomfort and after all Jackson was a plastic surgeon, the woman would prefer the scars to be as small and invisible as possible

"Of course, good job, Grey." He smiled and continued

Meredith wheeled to the scrub room and saw Derek waiting for her already

"You did an amazing job, you saved her life." He smiled and helped her remove all her gowns and the protective stuff for her wheelchair that kept it clean

"Thank you." She smiled tiredly

"Are you almost finished?" He stroke his fingers through her hair as he removed her scrub cap

"My shift ended an hour ago." She nodded and yawned. "What about you?"

"Me too, I wanted to wait for you and admire your surgery. Can I drive us home?" He asked

"I- Y-Yeah." She nodded, not liking to be the passenger but she could trust Derek, he was a good driver

"Let's go, let's go grab your stuff." He said and opened the door for her

"I don't wanna change, I'll go straight to pajamas after a hot shower." She explained

"I'll just switch quickly if you don't mind?" He asked her

"Of course not, you can get changed in my office." She offered and they arrived. She opened the door and collected her stuff while Derek quickly slipped on his pants and his button up shirt he already had collected

"I'm all ready." He smiled

"You look very handsome." She giggled and they left, locking the door and heading straight to their car

"Wait- Do you need your car in the morning?" He asked her

"No, Addison is staying home with Ellis tomorrow, I just need a ride to work." She explained

"I'm working, we can drive together." Derek offered

"Okay." Meredith nodded

Derek's SUV wasn't very easy for Meredith to get inside so he helped her a little

"Feel free to close your eyes for a bit." Derek grabbed her hand

"I- I can't.." She muttered and squeezed his hand softly

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.." Derek said sadly

"It's- Fine." She swallowed and Derek started driving them home

"I like you a lot, Meredith." He smiled and continued the drive, noticing she was a bit anxious but calmed down as they arrived at their street

"I still don't see it." Meredith muttered

"What do you mean?" He frowned, worried she'd reject him out if a sudden

"How can you like me.. like.. like this?" She asked

"Meredith, I promise you you're more than your spinal cord injury. You're a beautiful and smart woman, I love our talks, I love spending time with you. You're an amazing doctor, I get all dreamy when I watch you in surgery." He cupped her cheek softly

"But still this makes me a burden." Meredith muttered

"You're not a burden at all, Mer." He assured her

"You haven't slept with me yet, wait until I wake you every few hours." She sighed

"Honey, I don't mind." He assured her softly and kissed her lips. "Shall we go inside? I'll make us some lunch, what about grilled cheese and a salad?" He offered

"Grilled cheese is good, I don't need vegetables." She chuckled

"What about some tomato soup then?" Derek suggested

"Fineeee." She groaned and chuckled. Derek lifted her out of the car into her wheelchair and they headed inside the house

"I can't wait for the real summer to start." Derek smiled

"Hmm.." Meredith nodded, sighing as she removed her shoes and saw her feet were pretty swollen

"Maybe elevate them for a bit, I can help later with a foot rub?" He offered, not wanting to be too demanding

"Yeah.. I think I'll wear my splints." Meredith muttered

"I'll start on lunch." He squeezed her shoulder

Meredith wheeled off to her bedroom while Derek started putting real effort into the meal, he wanted her to have some healthy food as today was long already

After a while she returned. She was very insecure about the braces on her legs but no pants would be able to hide them so she decided to just wear them on top of her favorite pair of leggings

"Hey, soup is cooking." Derek walked up to her and kissed her lips, stroking his fingers over her cheek. "Your hair is cute like this."

Meredith had put it in a high pony so it'd be out of the way. She smiled a bit as he hadn't even stared yet at the braces on her feet

"Why don't you go rest on the couch? I'll be there as soon as lunch has finished

"Would you mind if we eat at the table? With soup- I don't wanna take any risks." She muttered

Of course I don't mind." Derek kissed her lips. "Go lay down, I'll come get you once I finished."

"Thank you." Meredith nodded tiredly
