Meredith had fallen asleep on the bed in Derek's trailer. He had made sure she was laying down comfortably while he decided to play a bit with Ellis. They played some soccer right outside the trailer so they'd hear if Meredith woke up
He didn't wanna leave because he knew she could not move herself around in the trailer but Ellis was too energetic so he had to do something
"Dewek? I tiwed!" Ellis muttered
"Why don't you go lay down with your mommy?" Derek suggested
"Yes!" Ellis giggled and ran inside, climbing onto the bed and laying down in her mom's arms
Derek tucked both of them in and laid down next to Meredith, his arm wrapped around her
Meredith woke up a while later. She saw her daughter asleep and felt Derek's arm wrapped around her
It was weird. It was so weird to wake up in another man's arms but she felt so safe here. Her wheelchair was still in the car and she was somewhere far away from home, she had every right to be scared but Derek calmed her down
She took a deep breath and tried to turn a little
"You're awake." Derek smiled
"Hmm.. Don't wanna be." She giggled and cuddled closer into his arms
Derek's heart grew bigger and bigger as he saw how cute Meredith was behaving
"Take a nap, sweetie." Derek kissed her forehead softly
Meredith smiled softly as she heard what Derek said. She reached for his hand and squeezed it softly
"Night night." He whispered and let her drift off again.
He decided to close his eyes as well, all three of them sound asleep until the rising sun woke them up
Derek was looking at Meredith as she woke up, he smiled at how cute she scrunched her nose
"Hey, morning." Derek whispered
"Morning." Meredith muttered, wanting to crawl closer but she felt her back hurting, which was probably because of the horrible bed and not changing her position often enough
"Are you okay?" Derek asked, tucking some of her hair behind her ear
"Yeah.. What time is it?" She frowned, not understanding why it's so bright outside
"8 in the morning-" He said, he wanted to ask how she had been sleeping but he had no chance
"What? It's 8AM?" She gasped, pushing herself up but groaning in pain
"Meredith?" Derek jolted up, trying to assist her
"Fuck- Fuck-" She groaned. "Can you get my meds? They're in the back attached to my chair, please."
"Of course." Derek got up, hurrying outside to her car, returning a while later with her bag and handing over some meds and a bottle of water
"Can you check for pressure sores, please?" Meredith muttered
"Oh- I- Yes. I'm sorry, I should have known.." He honestly had forgotten since Meredith was always so independent
"It's fine-" She groaned and attempted to move after her she swallowed her meds
"Can I?" Derek offed and after an assuring nod from Meredith he turned her around and removed her clothes, needing to make sure she didn't have a pressure sore as those could be very dangerous
"How does it look? Is it bad?" She asked, completely terrified
"Looks like you got lucky, looks like nothing is actually wrong." Derek said, starting to massage her skin a bit
"At least for once something that's not going horrible." She muttered, her good mood had completely disappeared
"Hey-" Derek cupped her cheek. "I'm sorry, I should have helped you."
Meredith took a deep breath, she didn't wanna be negative and act all dark and twisty, she had tried to leave that part behind even if she didn't succeed
"I like you a lot, Meredith. Even if this was a horrible idea, I enjoyed this so much." He whispered, hugging her
"I did too.." She muttered, leaning into his arms. "But I think you'll have to carry me to the toilet, I gotta check my catheter and bladder."
"Of course." Derek nodded and got up, then carrying her to the toilet
"Can you get me a new catheter please?" She muttered
"Coming right up." Derek nodded and returned after a bit with a new one. She inserted it after he had left and called out for him when she finished
"Thanks.." She whispered as he carried her back to the bed. "Derek.."
"What's wrong?" He was held back by how serious she was
"I'm very independent- And I would never want you to end up being my carer.." She started. "But.. There are some things you need to know.. and it's not always looking great and my body.. well.. it's useless."
"Your body isn't useless, Meredith." Derek said quickly
"70% of my body is." Meredith shrugged
"Mer.." Derek sighed but Ellis woke up, rubbing her eyes
"Mama?" Ellis whispered
"Morning monkey, how did you sleep?" Meredith asked, giggling at how similar her daughter and she were
"Dewek! Oh! The twee!" Ellis sat up as soon as she realized where she was
"Are you glad to be here?" Derek asked the little girl
"Yes!" She giggled. "Wanna stay here aaaaalll day!" She giggled
"Maybe not all day, I think we need to go mommy's home after breakfast but we can come here again." Derek promised
Meredith smiled and Derek started cooking. Meanwhile he checked some beds online, he wanted to talk to Meredith later but she needed a good bed for whenever they would stay here
