"Mama-" Ellis whimpered in Meredith's arms"What's up princess? It's 2am." Meredith stroke her fingers through her daughter's hair
"Bad dweam." She started sobbing
"Oh monkey-" Meredith sat up and pulled Ellis into her lap as she cried softly. "Do you wanna go grab some milk?"
Ellis nodded her head, her arms wrapped tight around her mom
"Let's go, princess." Meredith dragged herself into her wheelchair and wheeled off to the kitchen
"Mama, I miss daddy.." Ellis whimpered
"Is that what the bad dream was about?" Meredith guessed, the little girl nodding in response
Flashback
It had taken them so long to cut off the roof from the car so they could take Meredith out. By now she had gone numb, part of her wanted to die as she couldn't imagine living without Finn but then her daughter would have no one. She needed to be okay, for Ellie.
"Okay Meredith, we're getting you out now, everyone's stand-by at the hospital." Ben explained as they had alarmed Bailey and made sure the best doctors would be looking after her
"How's the pain?" Owen asked after he gave her some pain meds in a try to make it slightly better
"Fine." She muttered and suddenly saw the rood coming off, then it started to go really fast. She was completely strapped onto a stretcher, making sure she couldn't move at all in a try to save her spine and her spinal cord
"We're going now, Meredith." Ben explained and they started to drive off to Seattle Grace
"It's Meredith." Owen announced and jumped out of the ambulance
"Mer?!" Mark rushed to her side
"Markie- Finn- He-" She didn't know what to say
"I know. I'm staying with you." He promised and followed as they brought her up for scans
End of flashback
Meredith filled Ellis a cup of milk, handing it over to her
"Mommy?"
"Yes sweetie?" Meredith asked as she was meanwhile wheeling up to their bedroom again
"You have bad dweams too?"
"Yes, I do." Meredith nodded, not wanting to lie. "But then I cuddle with you and everything gets better."
Ellis started sipping her milk as she laid her head in her mom's chest. Meredith lifted her daughter on the bed and got in as well, the two of them cuddling
...
The next morning Meredith was still tired after being woken up by Ellis
"Mama! It's Saturday!" She announced proudly
"That's true, monkey." Meredith nodded, not moving from the comfortable position she was in
"Bweakfast!" Ellis jumped up and down on the bed
"Well you have a lot of energy today." Meredith chuckled and turned on her stomach, hugging the pillow on Finn's side
"Mama!" She chuckled and hugged her mom from behind, suddenly tracing her tiny fingers over Meredith's huge scar that ran down her neck and spine
"Ellis-" Meredith flinched
"Is it cause of the accident?" Ellis asked curiously
Meredith quickly turned herself on her back and was lost for words, her daughter was too smart
"Why don't we take a shower first? Uncle Mark is home as well this morning." Meredith told her daughter
"Otay!" Ellis giggled and got to the shower with her mom. Both got inside, Meredith sat on the bench, Ellis standing next to her
"Do you wanna wash yourself?" Meredith offered
"Yes!" Ellis said proudly.
A while later Meredith and Ellis were in the kitchen, both of them ate their bowl of cereal
"Good morning." Alex walked up to them, giving Ellis a hug
"Morning!" Ellis giggled. "Mama and I watched Moana!"
"Last night? Sounds fun! I smell you took a shower with mommy's shampoo." Mark winked and took a seat at the table
"Yes!" Ellis giggled
"I got something for you, a present!" Mark announced and gave it to her
Ellis ripped open the present and smiled.
"Mama! My princess dress!"
"Oh wow, Ellie Belle!" Meredith smiled, knowing she was extremely spoiled
"Come on, let's go try it on." Mark took her hand
Meanwhile Meredith cleaned their bowls and put them in the dishwasher. She wheeled up the table and quickly checked her emails on her laptop
"Mama!" Ellis ran towards her mom. "Look at me!"
"Wow, princess! You look absolutely stunning." Meredith smiled proudly
Ellis climbed up her mom's lap to show Meredith better
"Can I snap a picture?" Mark asked, taking out his phone
"Wait, why don't you pose for uncle Mark?" Meredith said quickly
"Mer.." Mark sighed, he knew she always avoided mirrors and pictures since the accident
"Mama, I want you in the picture!"
"Ellie, I don't look as great as you do." Meredith muttered
"But you're my mommy! I have no pics of you!" Ellis whined
"Ellie-" Meredith whispered, she had hidden all pictures of her own and she was only on a few new pics, mainly because she couldn't escape. She struggles a lot with herself and how she looked ever since
"Please mommy.." Ellis whispered, a tear running down her cheek
"Meredith shook her head, her heart breaking as Ellis slipped off her lap and ran to hug Mark
"Why don't we do some photoshoot with your princess dress?" He suggested
Ellis nodded as she sobbed in Mark's arms
"Sorry." Meredith muttered, not knowing what to do so she did what she knew, she went to her room
"Why doesn't mommy wanna pose with my princess dress?"
"Because mommy's struggling a bit with herself, princess." Mark kissed Ellis' forehead
"Does mama not like me?" Ellis asked
"No sweetie. Your mommy loves you to the moon and back, I promise." Mark brushed his fingers through her hair. "Let's go take pictures in the garden."
