Flashback

"Mark?" Meredith asked as they were having dinner together.

Addison was worrying a lot about her friend, she had found Meredith a few times before, crying on her own. Now during dinner Meredith was oddly quiet and it raised concerns

"Yes Mer?" He looked up in her green eyes, seeing tears close to falling down

"I- I wanna go to Finn's grave." She whispered. "C-Can you come with me? Please?"

"Of course I can." Mark squeezed her hand softly, seeing Addison nod gently

"Thank you.. Maybe we can go tomorrow? At least if you're free.."

"Tomorrow's perfect, we'll go together." He stood up and hugged her, feeling his shirt getting wet as Meredith couldn't hold back the tears anymore

"I- Maybe we should get some flowers.." She muttered

"We can stop to get some, yes." He assured her

Meredith nodded and slowly went back to eating. She was struggling so much but tried to see this as her first time daring to ask for help

End of flashback

"It's Ellie's birthday next week." Meredith told Derek

"Oh really? What are you planning on doing?" He asked, stroking his fingers through her hair

"I have no idea.. I want her to have a special party.. She said she'd like to celebrate at the trampoline park but I need to get it checked out." Meredith explained

"I can help if you want?" Derek offered

"If you don't mind." Meredith nodded her head. "I want her to be the happiest girl possible."

"She's happy, Mer. She's really happy." Derek assured her

"In 3 weeks- It's almost 4 years since Finn passed away. It's so close to her birthday.." Meredith explained, visibly struggling with it

"Do you usually do something to remind him on that day?" He asked her

"Last year we went to the farm he used to take us to but it's not very easy to get around." Meredith teared up. "I don't know if we'll try again this year."

"But did you two feel closer to him?" Meredith asked

"Yeah.." Meredith nodded, turning herself deeper into Derek's chest

"Why don't you let someone help you? Just so you and Ellis can take time for yourself, to mourn Finn." He kept stroking his fingers through her hair as it had visibly calmed her down

"Maybe.." Meredith nodded softly. "And for Ellis' party I want her to never forget."

"She's completely into puppies lately, she keeps begging if I'll buy her one." Derek laughed

"I know, she's been asking me so often." Meredith nodded

"She's such a smart and cute kiddo." Derek breathed, kissing her head softly

"I love her so much." Meredith nodded, her eyes started to feel really heavy

"Are you tired?" Derek asked, moving her a little so she was resting against his chest

"Yeah.. PT was rough and I never should have changed the sheets." She weakly chuckled

"Why don't we take a nap? Ellis is with mom and dad.." He suggested, even if he didn't need one himself

"I'm scared my arms will get sore." She laughed. "But they already are."

"We can take a nap, afterwards we can take a bath or a shower together and I'll massage your muscles to make them less sore, how does that sound?" Derek asked her

"Really great." She flushed as bit

"Let's go." He said and let her get into her wheelchair, then he pushed her up to the bedroom and they climbed into bed together

Meredith placed her pillow in between her legs so she wouldn't get pressure sores and cuddled into Derek's chest. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, giving a soft kiss on her head

"Sweet dreams." He whispered and watched her as she slowly fell asleep

...

A few hours later Derek and Ellis were playing. Carolyn and Christopher had come over to drop her off but Meredith was still asleep

"How have you two been doing?" Christopher asked his son

"Really well." Derek smiled widely as he thought about Meredith.

"-Opher, Dewek makes yummy pancakes!" Ellis told the elder man

"Oh really? Did you know Carolyn learned him how he had to cook?" Christopher explained

"Dewek? Is that true?" Ellis asked him with wide eyes

"Yes, my mom taught me how to cook." He nodded

"My mama-" Ellis started but then spotted her mom wheeling up to them. "Mama!"

"Hey princess." Meredith smiled as her daughter ran towards her in full speed

"Mama, missed you." She muttered and climbed up Meredith's lap, hugging her mom tightly

"What's up, monkey?" Meredith frowned, rubbing her daughter's back as she was super clingy

Derek joined the frown, he didn't understand what was the cause of Ellis' mood switch and he couldn't help but feel super concerned about the little girl

"Just missed you, mama." She whispered in Meredith's arms

"Well then let's hug for a bit." Meredith kissed Ellis' head softly and held her tight. "Hey, thanks for dropping her off."

"It's okay, sweetie. How are you, did you have a good nap?" Christopher asked her

"Yeah, I did." She smiled softly at him

"Why don't you come over for dinner tonight? We can turn on the grill and sit in the garden." He suggested, Carolyn nodded along

"What do you think?" Derek asked her

"Sure, do you wanna go to Carolyn and Christopher's house tonight, monkey?" Meredith asked her daughter

"Uhu.. With mommy." She nodded

"Of course, and uncle Mark and auntie Addie can come too and I'll make cookies and dessert." Carolyn smiled warmly

"Yes!" Ellis giggled, back to being her bright self

"Deal. We'll see the three of you later today." Christopher waves as they then left

"Mommy, Dewek gots to have a parwty with us!" Ellis giggled

"I agree, we need a princess tea party." Meredith chuckled. "Derek can wear the tiara."

"Yes mommy!" Ellis chuckled and ran off to her playroom
