like my can't sleep and balcony chapters! but this one is better in my opinion :)

you toss and turn in bed, the clock on the nightstand displays a mocking 2:47 AM. the silence of the room is very loud, but is broken by the occasional rustle of your sheets. insomnia has been your companion for weeks now, leaving you so exhausted and frustrated.

colby sleeps beside you peacefully. you watch him for a few seconds, he looks so serene and relaxed.

you suddenly feel a pong of envy and decide that laying there was pointless so you quietly slither out of bed, trying not to wake colby

you quietly make your way to the kitchen and fill up a glass of water, you take slow slips hoping that the drink will calm your mind. you stare into space and you suddenly feel a sense of anger. why is it that colby can sleep so easily?

a few minutes later you hear footsteps coming down the stairs. you turn around and you see colby. his hair is all messy and there's still sleep in his eyes but yet they're full of concern. "couldn't sleep again baby?" he mumbles

you nod, feeling guilty for waking him up. "i'm sorry i didnt meant to-"
he shakes his head. "no, you don't need to apologize baby, i'm more worried about you not getting any rest" he comes closer to you, wrapping his long arms around you

he pulls away from the hug "come on," a clap of thunder interrupts him, he looks down at you "i have an idea"

he grabs your hand and then walks with you towards the balcony door, grabbing a blanket from the couch before going outside with you

he sits down on the couch on the balcony then he positions you in his lap, your legs on one side of the couch while you kinda lay on his chest

"what are we doing?" you ask him
"you always fall asleep in the car when it's raining so maybe hearing the rain will make you sleepy?" he explains

you smile at him before you drop your head back into his chest, he covers you with the blanket and starts cradling you like a baby

you both sit there quietly for a few, listening to the rhythm of rain dropping on the balcony railing and the thunder rumbling at a distance.

as you lay there, you feel the tension in your body start to ease. the steady sound of rain combined with the gentle fall and rise of colby's chest puts you into relaxation.

your sleepy eyes look up at colby, just to see if he's awake. the lightning flashes in the dark sky make it so you can see his eyes perfectly. he's just watching the storm

he finally notices that you're looking up at him and he smiles at the fact you look sleepy.

"better?" he whispers, continuing the cradling
you nod tiredly and your eyes start to fall close
"good." he whispers before placing a soft kiss on your forehead "i'm so glad"

he continues to cradle you as you listen to the soothing sound of the storm. and finally for the first time in weeks, you feel a sense of peace wash over you and you fall into a deep sleep.

colby continues to hold you close, as you fall deeper into sleep. he watches over you, making sure you're truly at peace before he takes you back to bed

he lifts you up carefully and carries you back inside and tucks you back in bed with the same blanket you used on the balcony

he crawls in bed beside you, wrapping a comforting arm around your waist and pulling you close again. you stir slightly, murmuring something unrecognizable

"shhhhhh, it's okay" colby whispers softly then kisses your cheek gently "i'm right here" he whispers. you quickly settle back into that deep slumber

he watches you for a few more moments before he drifts off to sleep as well.

the next morning, colby wakes up first. the sun shines through the blinds as he blinks against the light.

he looks over at you and sees you sleeping soundly. he moves some hair from your face and gives you a kiss on the forehead before deciding to let you sleep some more

he carefully slips out of bed, making sure not to wake you and he just goes about his morning.

hours pass and colby passes time by working on merch designs with sam. the boys can be loud and out of control sometimes so be made sure to keep the environment nice and quiet.

every now and then he peeps his head into the bedroom to see if you stirred but each time, you're still knocked out

when the clock strikes noon, you finally begin to stir and colby walks in at the perfect time, he closes the door quietly and crawls back in the bed on top of you

"morning baby" he whispers, kissing your cheek down to your neck
"what time is it?" you mumble, your voice still thick with sleep
"just past noon. don't be mad at me, you needed some sleep" he says, lightly brushing some hair out of your face
you smile and rub your eyes, adjusting to the sunlight "thank you"
"of course, how ya feeling?"
"better.. a lot better actually" your hands slide down the sides of your face by your ears
"good" he says in relief "so what do you want to do today? did you still want to go shopping?" he asks softly, his fingers tracing lazy shapes on your chest
you yawn and relax more into the bed once again
"still tired?" he says softly but you just nod in response, your eyes kinda fluttering
"it's okay baby, just sleep, you need the rest"
your eyes fall shut and colby kinda giggles at the sight

while you rest, he admires you with a tender smile. the soft daylight perfectly illuminates your face, your lips puffy from sleep, your hair messy but not too messy, he thinks you look adorable

he gently rolls off of you to grab his phone but you stir at the loss of contact. you sleepily roll back into his chest and he wraps an arm around you before sneaking a picture

he pressses a gentle kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering a second longer than usual "i love you" he whispers softly, his breath warm against your skin
