Chapter 1//
"Remember Brooklyn, No glove, No love." My mother chimes unbuckling her seat belt.
"Don't be silly tell him to cover his Willy." She adds as we pull into the huge gates.
"Cover his stump before y'all hump." She says as we pull up into the drop-off.
"Mom, I get it.", I groan regretting why I didn't just ride with my father instead of here with my mother on the verge of puking.
"If you get into heat, package his meat." She replies ignoring me in a singsong voice. The car halts to a stop and before the driver has time to get out and open the door for us I open the door jumping out head first out.
I hear laughter from behind me and I see my father stepping out of his car. "Was the ride that bad?" He asks walking closer to me a giving me a quick hug.
"You have no idea," I say smiling. I haven't seen him since he's gotten back from his business trip overseas.
"She started talking about boys." I shudder at even the thought of sitting there one more second with her.
"Don't blame me for trying to get her prepared, I don't want to see any little Brooklyn's running around my house anytime soon." She laughs as she steps out of the car after me, thanking the driver.
"Mr. and Mrs. Reeves!" A voice shouts. I turn around and I realize that we were standing in front of the infamous Richmond Academy. It looked more like a palace than a school, nevertheless the school I'm going to be attending the rest of my junior year and senior year.
Tearing my eyes off of the amazing building I turn my attention to my parents who were both walking towards the lady who greeted us. Quickly catching up to them, we greet her at the huge doors.
"Hi! I'm Katelyn Ryder and I'm the headmistress here at Richmond Academy." She says smiling.
Her blonde hair was pulled back into a tight and elegant bun. Her pantsuit with a simple black blazer with a white blouse underneath. In her hands held a black folder filled to the brim.
She and my parents made me feel underdressed all of them in suits while I was wearing a pair of jeans and a ratty old tee shirt.
"Let's get going." She says clapping her hands together and she turns around and gesturing for us to follow her.
"Thank you so much for accepting Brooklyn on such short notice." My mom says her high heels clicking on the sidewalk twirling a strand of her long kinky hair.
"No problem Ms. Reeves." She says smiling over her shoulder as she opens one of the doors to one of the huge buildings on this campus.
Nothing I haven't seen before a typical huge school for rich kids. This is being hypocritical considering after my parents' business took off, I am one of these rich kids dropped of a boarding school.
"This is the main building, the school." She says taking out a white card from her jacket pocket and swiping it over the scanner and we hear a click then she opens the door revealing a hallway.
"As you can see we have high-tech security all around the school including numerous guards in the front, back, and inside the school." She says.
We start walking down the marble hallway. Rows of long black lockers covering the walls.
"How are living situations?" My father asks speaking up.
"Well, that depends on your choice some kids prefer to stay with a roommate and others want their room." She says as we take a turn into another hallway. My eyes travel around the hallway taking in everything. My old high schools were pretty good but none of them were even on the same level as this one.
"I put her down for a single room." My mother says as we stop. He nods and diverts his attention back to headmaster Ryder.
"This is the library." She says pointing to the dark wooden doors that were to the right of us.
Just as she was about to open her mouth when a loud shrieking noise irrupted throughout all of the hallways and doors began to open and students burst out of the dozens of doors down this hallway.
"Looks like the third period just ended, Maybe I can find one of the students to help Brooklyn and show her to her room." The headmistress asks looking at me expectantly.
"Sure that would be great," I say nodding a smile on my face. At least I would be able to meet someone new.
"Headmistress!" Someone shouts I turn around and I see a guy walking towards us.
"Here's someone!" Headmistress exclaims excitedly "Beckett!" She says waving over someone that was behind me. I turn around and I see a grinning brown-haired guy walking towards us. I smile as he reaches us and he stops.
"Hey Headmistress R.," he says
"Ms. and Mr. Reeves this is Beckett W. James," Headmaster says introducing him to both of my parents. he politely smiles and shakes both of their hands.
"And, this is their daughter Brooklyn," she Says gesturing to me. I stand awkwardly as he gives me a once over the smile on his face widening. My father clears his throat startling Beckett who was not so subtly checking me out.
"James right? Are you in any way related to Donald W. James?" My mother asks.
He nods "Yeah that's my father he runs W. James's Entertainment." He says and both of my parents nod their heads with respect."
"Now Beckett, I was wondering if you could show Brooklyn here her dorm, and then for the rest of the day, she could shadow you? Would that be okay?" she asks her lips pulled back into a tight smile, Indicating that she was not asking.
"Sure it's not like I have anything better to do." He responds laughing. I chuckle and look back at my parents.
"Thanks, her room is a single on the top floor of the blue suite." She says opening the folder in her hand and handing Beckett a piece of paper.
"Bye." I wave at my parents who were undoubtedly going to call me once their tour was finished. I turn back to Beckett who was waiting patiently by one of the tall black lockers.
"So Brooklyn." He starts repeating my name an easy smile on his face that seems to never fade.
"That's me," I say his smile contagious and I find myself smiling back at him.
"Is this your first time out here on the east coast?" He asks as we start walking
I shake my head "No, I actually grew up in D.C.
but we had to move to California when my parents' company took off." I say my black chucks squeaking on the floors.
"That's cool." He says
"My parent's company also runs in California." He says leading me down another hall.
"You said that your parents own James entertainment right?" I say trying to make small talk and he nods.
"So what brings you here too the ever so humble Richmond Academy?" He asks as we stop as the doors at the end of the hallway and he takes a card out of his black track pants similar to the card that headmaster had, and he swiped it over the scanner and opened the door.
"Nothing really, my parents are staying in England for this big deal," I say shrugging walking out of the door after him.
We walk in a comfortable silence across the lawn to another huge building that Beckett had told me was where most of the girls lived.
"Am I the only one in this hallway?" I ask as we stop at the first door.
"No Hayley lives up here but other than you and her you guys are the only ones that live up here." He says looking down at the piece of paper the headmaster gave him.
"Your room's down here, room number one." He says gesturing to the door that we were now in front of.
"Who's Hayley?" I ask as he opens the door and we step into the room.
"She's a friend you'll probably meet her soon anyway." He says laughing while looking around the place too.
"This place is even bigger than the suite that I share with Archer," Beckett says taking everything in from the glossed hardwood floors to the humongous glass windows overlooking the entire school.
"You could have awesome parties here." He says laughing sitting down on one of the two couches that were here. The place was already fully furnished, probably my mother's work.
"So Brooklyn Reeves, tell me about yourself?" Beckett says crossing his arms over one another and leaning back on the couch.
"What do you want to know?" I ask sitting down on the other end of the couch.
"Everything, if we're going to be besties then I have to know everything about you." He says laughing.
"Do you know how creepy that sounds?" I ask laughing at him.
"You know you'd think I'd be offended by that but after the emotional trauma that Hayley and Archer have put me through, nothing can break me," he says joining my laughter. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone.
"Oh shit, the bell's about to ring." he curses standing up
"Headmistress said that you could shadow me today right?" he asks I nod standing up following him to the door.
"These are your keys," he says handing two keys I place both of them in my pocket and I close the door behind me.
"Let's play twenty questions on the way," Beckett says as we walk towards the elevator. I shrug agreeing it's not like we have anything better to do.
"You start," I say pressing the elevator button trying to think of a good question.
"Okay, how old are you?" he asks his bright blue eyes shining with amusement. How are people this happy all the time?
"I turned seventeen last month," I say just as the elevator door dings and the doors open.
"Are you a junior too?" I ask as I walk into the elevator.
"Yeah I actually just turned seventeen too last month," he says grinning at me then he pushes the elevator button to go down.
As we kept on asking and answering each other's questions I started to feel more and more comfortable talking to him, and for the first time in a very long time, I felt like I was actually making a real friend.
After shadowing Beckett for his last three periods it was time for lunch, or in Beckett's words 'God's gift to us in this hell people call school'
Most of his classes were pretty normal nothing really happened then the usual standing up and introducing myself to the class.
"Let's go, they have Thai food today and there's no way in hell I'm missing out on this," Beckett shouts as soon as we leave his fifth period. Grabbing my hand he pushes his way through the mob of angry teenagers. We pass dozens of doors and I watch in marvel at the amazing building as Beckett drags me along.
I meet eyes with a girl who looks about my age her blonde hair pulled back into a slick ponytail and her dark blue eyes burning holes into me. She takes one glance at Beckett and raises an eyebrow. I quickly divert my eyes paying attention to Beckett who had finally let go of my hand and we were now in front of two brown doors.
"We now enter the gates of heaven," Beckett says amusement laced in his tone but my stomach flips just thinking about entering it.
He pushes the door open and I was immediately greeted with a rush of overwhelming excitement, the whole cafeteria was filled with other students and everything in it just screams money. From the marble floors to the ceiling that hanged multiple flat chandlers.
My mouth dropped open. "This is the cafeteria?!" I say as we walk over to the line goosebumps appear on my skin as I walk past the tables with students staring at us.
"Yeah, pretty cool right?" He says chuckling and before we know it we were at the front of the line.
After we both paid for our lunches I follow Beckett to a table that multiple people were already sitting at. I follow Beckett biting my lip as I look around the table.
"Ok, you guys can start actually having fun now that I'm here," Beckett says setting his tray down on the black table next to a pretty blonde girl who was laughing.
"Guys this is Brooklyn and she's shadowing me today," Beckett says loudly trying to get everyone's attention.
The table falls silent and I feel three pairs of eyes on me.
"And now you guys introduce yourselves," Beckett says rolling his eyes sitting down next to a pretty blonde girl.
The blonde girl smacks Beckett on the shoulder and turns to me with a smile.
"I'm going to apologize in advance for his rudeness." She says laughing scooting over making room for me to sit down. "I'm Chloe." She says introducing herself.
"That's Liam." She says pointing to a guy dressed in all black, with his black hair staring at his phone.
"That's Hayley." She says pointing to a brunette who was silently poking at her food. When she hears her name her head shoots up and she gives us a small smile revealing her dimples.
"Welcome to Richmond," Chloe exclaims.
"Thanks," I say setting my tray down and sitting down in between Chloe and Liam.
"So Brooklyn, how's Richmond been treating you so far." She says pushing her tray away from herself and looking up at me.
I shrug "I haven't really had a chance to look around the school, but so far everything is pretty amazing." I say grinning.
"I know right this is so much better than being locked up at home." Says Chloe taking a sip of her water.
"You live in a palace, anyone would love to be locked up in one," Beckett says rolling his eyes.
"You live in a palace!" I say my eyes widening. Beckett smiles.
"I may have forgotten to formally introduce Chloe as princess Arden." He says innocently amusement present in his eyes.
"Is there any more royalty at this table that I need to know about?" I ask only half-joking.
Hayley snickers but shakes her head. "No Chloe's the only one, the rest of us are just the kids of rich business owners." She says. I nod and continue to eat my food.
"Who's the new girl?" Someone says from behind me. I turn my head around and standing there was a tall brown almost black-haired guy. He was attractive, with brown eyes and a knowing smirk on his face showing me that he definitely didn't need a reminder.
"I'm Brooklyn," I say a small smile on my face but he doesn't return one.
"Archer Moreno." He says his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.
