In the evening...
"Why did we come here?" Sully asked, frowning as he looked at the gambling den before him.
It was a place called Elysian Odds.
Elysian Odds was a lively gambling den where nobles gathered to drink, gamble, and enjoy the company of women. The place was always crowded, filled with laughter, shouts, and the clinking of glasses. This was the place where Derek usually went to have a drink since it was the closest to the academy.
Sully couldn't understand why Zadhea chose to go there. Was it to meet a friend? But who and why?
"You'll see," Zadhea's lips curved into a smile as she whispered mysteriously.
"Seriously?" Sully was kind of disappointed. "I thought we were going to find your Heidith and tell him everything."
"Nope." Zadhea shook her head, still smiling. "There's someone else we should meet first."
Sully nodded halfheartedly. His eyes then fell on her weird outfit.
"Is this the reason you dressed like that?"
Zadhea was wearing pants and a shirt. That wasn't the only unusual thing. She had disguised herself as a young man. The short blonde wig she wore hid her long hair. Her carefully crafted makeup gave her a masculine look. She straightened her back and raised her chin proudly, appearing like a young, wealthy, charming nobleman. Sadly, despite that, she still looked adorable.
Zadhea hummed in response before stepping into the den, her eyes scanning the crowd, looking for someone. When she found her target, the corner of her mouth raised into a smirk.
"Lad, that's your final round," an old man said as he flashed a smug smile at the teenager seated across from him. "You sure you want to play? You have no money, ha?"
The boy gritted his teeth as a wave of irritation washed over him. He was sure that old hag was mocking him, but his pride didn't allow him to back out. He had lost all his rounds, but he still hoped he could win the last one. He wanted to teach the old dog a good lesson for looking down on him.
"In fact, I have." He threw a handful of gold coins on the table. Grinning, he looked directly into the old man's eyes and stated confidently, "And I'm going to win."
The old man laughed, shaking his head. He saw the confidence in the teenager's gray eyes, but it didn't make him afraid, even in the slightest. He was determined his bright eyes would soon turn dark. As he showed his cards, just as he anticipated, the boy's eyes flickered and he gasped in shock. His face also turned pale, and his body began to shake like a leaf when he remembered that was all he could afford for the night. He had to go back like a loser. It made his pride shatter into pieces.
"Ha ha ha," the old man began to laugh again. "Satisfying."
"You're robbing him all the time," his gang mocked the teenager as they also joined in laughing along with him.
Suddenly, someone threw a pouch of gold coins onto the dark mahogany table, making a clinking sound.
That action made everyone go silent as they turned to look at the young man standing beside the table, his clothes showing how rich he was.
"I want to play," he said in a low, deep voice, his blue eyes colliding with the teenager's gray eyes.
The old man chuckled awkwardly. "Why not? Let's play."
The young man smirked, his eyes gleaming dangerously. "Who said I'm playing with you?"
His icy voice made a shiver run down the old man's spine. However, he quickly masked his fear with a frown, asking, "What?"
