Jellal POV

"This is it," Meredy whispered. "We're going to die."

Ultear reached out and hugged the pink-haired girl close.

"Hands up," Lahar ordered. "And if you think about escaping, we'll kill you on the spot."

I lifted my arms into the air and a Rune Knight quickly put on a pair of handcuffs.

I stared at the metal cuffs, thinking about the time I had been taken into custody seven years ago.

"Seven years on the run is long enough," Doranbolt muttered.

"Into the wagon you go," Lahar said pushing us into the vehicle.

They closed the door, leaving us in darkness.

"I-I'm scared," Meredy whimpered. "I don't want to die."

Ultear wrapped her arm around Meredy's shoulder and said nothing.

"It's my fault," I whispered. "I'm sorry."

The ride to the Magic Council Fiore Branch was very short. The Rune Knights were silent as they escorted us to the holding cell, where we were heavily guarded.

"It was nice working with you," Ultear murmured.

I nodded, "Mm."

"Do we wait?" Ultear asked.

One of the Rune Knights turned around to face us, "Yes. Lahar has decided that you will be given the death sentence tomorrow."

"No trial?" Meredy asked.

"No trial," the man agreed. "Lahar and the other council members have accused you two of treason.  Fernandes on the other hand has been accused of treason and murder.

I ducked my head with shame, I've always known this was going to happen. This is what I deserve.

"It's not your fault," Ultear muttered. "I brainwashed you."

"No, it's not your fault either Ul," Meredy chimed in. "It's Zeref."

"It's getting late," I interrupted. "Go to sleep."

"You think we can go to sleep?" Ultear asked sarcastically.

I sighed, "You're right."

"How about we play my game," Meredy said.

Ultear gave her a small smile, "Whatever makes you happy, Meldy."

"I love Erza," I mumbled.

"What?" Meredy asked. "You actually confessed? Without me asking you to?"

"Too bad Erza's not here," Ultear said.

"It's too late anyway," I whispered. "We're going to die."

Ultear patted my back sympathetically.

"Someone broke in!" Doranbolt yelled, running past our cell.

Meredy perked up, "Cool!"

"Who is it?" Lahar asked.

"I don't know," Doranbolt panted. "I didn't see their faces."

"Guard all of the prisoners," Lahar commanded. "Quick!"

"Oh no you don't!" a voice yelled. "I'm all fired up now!"
