A song for the chapter: All the Young Dudes - Mott The Hoople

It was the third of December, a cold Friday evening. Elwia, Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Irie were studying in the library. Friday was the one rare time when the library was actually quiet, probably because no one wanted to spend their Friday studying.

"I can't study anymore. How did you guys become friends with Irie? You've already told the story of your first year, so I know how you three met, but what about with Irie?" Elwia asked, trying to change the subject. Irie looked at Elwia, amused, and closed her book.

"Well, during our fifth year, when Dumbledore's army became a thing, I obviously joined because fuck Umbridge and fuck the ministry. There I became closer with these three troublemakers." Irie answered with a smile.

"Oh, and also, since the Order of the Phoenix uses Grimmauld Place as their headquarters, we have been seeing each other there, since Irie has been living there with Remus and Sirius since her fourth year. Irie's mothers were a part of the original order and also friends with Remus and Sirius." Harry answered and glanced at Irie with a sad smile.

"Your mothers? What are their names?" Elwia asked, getting a bad feeling in her stomach from the way Harry looked at Irie.

"Dorcas Meadowes and Marlene McKinnon. They're not here anymore." Irie nodded her head with a tight smile.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Elwia mumbled and looked at Irie sympathetically.

"Dorcas got murdered by Voldemort just a week after Marlene did. Marlene was visiting her relatives, and that's when the death eaters wiped out her and her whole family. Dorcas and Marlene used a sperm donor for Dorcas, and it may sound foolish to intentionally have children during the war, but I was told that they had a plan to move tl Australia to escape the war. They tried escaping too late..." Irie's voice broke a little, but she managed to continue speaking.

"They were supposed to leave for Australia the day after Marlene would be done saying goodbye to her relatives, but Marlene never came back. Dorcas was in shock and grieving; she had written a letter to Sirius and Remus about how she had a feeling that Voldemort was coming for her and had asked if they could raise me as their own. A week after the letter, she was dead. Remus raised me by himself since Sirius got sent to Azkaban. But luckily, since my fourth year, he has been around, trying his best to compensate for the years he lost. Remus and Sirius are my legal guardians." Irie sighed.

Elwia felt so bad for Irie; she was so strong.

"My mother, Dorcas, was a powerful witch—one of the best I have heard. And Marlene, well, Sirius told me that she would have been the funniest mother ever." Irie laughed dryly.

When Elwia had first started Hogwarts, the first month around, she hadn't realised how terrible Voldemort and the death eaters were. They weren't an active problem in France. But now, Elwia had learned how terrible they truly were and how much damage and pain they had caused her friends. She hated them. Draco Malfoy was a Death Eater, and Mattheo was one too. Elwia wasn't sure whether the rest of the boys were, since they were constantly wearing long sleeves. She loved her Slytherin friends, but did she really want to associate with people who supported Voldemort's actions?

There were huge unanswered questions. Was Malfoy willingly a Death Eater? Did he or the other boys think it was okay to murder innocents? What about Pansy and Astoria? Why had Elwia not talked about these things with them?

No, what was Elwia even thinking? Obviously, Pansy and Astoria didn't think it was okay nor did the boys. They were good people, especially Pansy and Astoria. Elwia felt guilty for even thinking that her friends would ever be okay with something like that.
