A song for the chapter: Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan
October 1997
"Do we have enough food, or should we get some more canned beans? I feel awful stealing these, but we're practically starving." Hermione fussed, looking around her as she piled the canned beans into her bag.
"If we have any more canned beans to eat, I will feel awful for all of you sharing that bloody tent with me." Ron scoffed, which caused both Elwia and Hermione to grimace.
"Let's go before the owner comes back." Harry sighed and opened the door, filling the room with sunlight and fresh air.
"I don't think anyone even lives here. This little cottage looks abandoned." Elwia muttered, tightening the jacket around her body.
The four walked for thirty minutes, the only sound being the crunching leaves under their shoes and the singing of blackbirds. Once they finally found a place fit to set their tent in, they stopped in their tracks and began casting the safety enchantments.
."Today's the day." Harry stated with a determined face.
"You mean the day we'll finally destroy the Horcrux that we've already been able to destroy for three weeks?" Ron raised his eyebrow, setting up the tent with his wand.
"Yes, Ron." Harry rolled his eyes and then continued, "I wanted to wait for a certain moment, and now I feel like it's the perfect time."
Elwia glanced at the two bickering boys. They had been at each other's throats the last few days, more specifically ever since they started wearing Salazar's locket in turns.
"And why's that? Why is now the perfect time, Harry?" Ron asked, tilting his head.
"We wanted to wait until you-know-who was in his weakest moment. I can sense him as well, and I decided on this with Harry. We are not sure why you-know-who is feeling weak; who knows? Maybe, hopefully, it's because Mattheo destroyed the Horcrux in Hogwarts, though I doubt it because he isn't angry right now. If we destroy the locket now, we believe he will have trouble gathering back his powers." Elwia jumped in, trying to calm the tension between Harry and Ron.
"Right, and you could've shared that plan with us, you know? We're here as well." Ron pointed to his chest Hermione, who looked anxious and had crossed arms, not wanting to cause any trouble unlike Ron.
"We just did. Happy?" Harry scowled and adjusted his glasses.
"Very. It'd just be nice to know what we're doing since most of the time it looks like you two have no bloody idea what to do." Ron raised his voice, stepping closer to the two siblings.
"Ron, take it off. The Horcrux." Hermione stepped in and angrily walked up to Ron.
"I've no idea what you're expecting us to do. Do you want us to simply walk into Hogwarts where Snape is a headmaster now and where Death Eaters are acting as security and go looking for the damn Horcrux? Or, oh, I have a better one. Do you want us to bloody summon you-know-who here and ask permission to kill his stupid snake? These things take time, Ron. Obviously, we're not just going to find every fucking Horcrux in the span of a month. We have to plan things out before doing them." Elwia bellowed, having had enough of Ron's attitude.
"Malfoy's little girlfriend. I can't believe it." Ron muttered as he shoved the locket in Hermione's hand.
"You keep your mouth shut, Weasley. You can wander in the wilderness further away from us for all I care." Elwia snarled.
Ron didn't answer anything; instead, he walked inside the tent, his face washed with regret. It seemed the locket took the most toll on him out of everyone else.
