A song for the chapter: Je te laisserai de mots - Patrick Watson

bold = french

Elwia didn't wake up the next day nor on the next seven days that came. Her friends never left her side, just like they hadn't back in October. It wasn't a coma this time, luckily. Elwia was just too weak to stay awake for more than one second, having lost so much blood. She needed time to recover from her wounds.

When Elwia opened her eyes, she noticed with great pleasure that she finally managed to keep them open without passing out immediately after. The sunlight of spring shone brightly into Elwia's eyes, blinding her momentarily.

After a minute, Elwia got used to the sunlight and began looking around her, surprised to see Draco at the end of her bed reading a book.

"What are you doing here?" Elwia asked quietly, her voice raspy from having not spoken in over a week.

Draco quickly looked up from his book, shocked to see that Elwia was finally awake.

"I-I'm not sure. I just wanted to make sure you didn't die because of me." Draco answered with a guilty look on his face.

"It wasn't your spell that hit me." Elwia mumbled, thinking about her brother who had almost killed her.

"No, but it still happened because of me. This all tracks back to the task." Draco shook his head.

Elwia was silent, unsure of what to say. She then thought back to Draco's words in the bathroom, when she had been at the brink of death. What had he meant by them? Elwia had thought that whatever they had was strictly over.

"I heard you." Elwia's voice was barely above a whisper.

Draco looked down, unable to look Elwia in the eyes.

"You said you didn't mean what you said in the classroom and that you need me. What did you mean by that, Draco? Tell me the truth." Elwia asked, her voice almost begging.

"I don't know, I'm not sure." Draco shook his head, slowly standing up from the chair.

It was clear that he wasn't telling the truth; there was something or someone holding him back, but it was impossible to figure out what it was.

Elwia's expression was sad, feeling pained that things had come this way.

"What day is it?" Elwia changed the topic, not wanting to get hurt any more by Draco's actions.

"It's the 16th of May." Draco answered, closed his book that was on the bed and began walking towards the door.

"That's it? You're just going to leave?" Elwia scoffed and crossed her hands.

"No, I'm going to get Pomfrey just like the last time." Draco sighed, silencing Elwia from complaining.

And it was almost exactly like the last time, because again, soon enough, Astoria and Pansy came running to Elwia, engulfing her in a big hug. Only this time, Draco didn't come back into the Hospital Wing after getting Pomfrey and her friends. He didn't bother to come back, and Elwia wasn't sure why.

"I'm so glad you're okay. We were worried sick about you. I can't believe Potter would do something like that." Astoria fussed, hugging Elwia from the side as they were walking in the hallways.

"It was an accident. Well, it was an accident that it hit me. If it hadn't been me, then it would've been Malfoy." Elwia noted.

"We're back to a last-name basis, are we?" Pansy raised her eyebrow and chuckled.

"Yeah, I mean. After the way he ended things between us, I believe it's safe to say that we're not friends. He's not Draco to me anymore, simply just Malfoy, just like the old times." Elwia shrugged her shoulders, trying her best to hide her hurt and the fact that her feelings were still most definitely there.
