A song for the chapter: Come - Adrianne Lenker

tw: blood, injury, major character death

Remember you must die.

Elwia often thought about death: what it would feel like, and what would happen to her soul after dying? She liked to think there was an afterlife—some kind of sanctuary for the lost souls.

She wished there was an afterlife now more than anything when she saw the corpses of students who she had gone to school with. Students who had been no older than 16, some of them.

They had found a quiet place where they could catch their breaths and think of all that had happened. Elwia knew they couldn't stay there for long, though.

"I can't believe Mattheo is dead..." Blaise shook his head, his eyes full of shock.

"Fred's gone as well." Elwia mumbled, resting her head against Astoria's shoulder, who could, even in the darkest moments of the world, bring her warmth and some colour in the black hell she lived every day.

Draco paced restlessly around the girls' lavatory, his grip on his wand so tight that his knuckles were turning white.

"For what it matters, I really love every single one of you." Adrian sighed, creating a small wave of 'Aww' sounds.

"There's no need to worry. We'll be safe, and we'll remember Mattheo always." Theo stated determinedly and stood up from the floor.

"Cheers, mate." Blaise looked up with a smile.

"But now that we're at it, has anyone seen Min-Seo? I'd really like to confess my love for her." Theo rubbed his neck.

"Sorry, haven't." Elwia murmured with an empty, hollow feeling inside of her.

Moaning Myrtle decided to explode the sinks in the lavatory, so they had to go back to the corridors, much to their dismay.

"Which way?" Blaise asked, looking around at his surroundings anxiously.

"The Great Hall. They're aiding the wounded there. I heard someone shouting about it before we went to the lavatory." Astoria answered and began leading the way.

"Watch out!" Elwia shouted when she noticed Death Eaters farther away approaching them.

"Expulso!"

"Stupefy!"

One of the Death Eaters flew towards Elwia as if he was specifically after her.

"Missed me, did you, dear? Incarcerous!"

Elwia's blood ran cold when Antonin Dolohov revealed himself and cast ropes to appear around her body, leaving her unable to run away from him.

"I most certainly missed you, Ziggy." He smirked devilishly and knelt over Elwia.

"Get off her!" Draco ran towards Dolohov, smashing him down on the floor with a loud thud.

"Finite. Here, take my hand." Astoria ended the binding spell and helped Elwia stand up.

"Thank you, Tori." Elwia smiled and rushed over to Dolohov, who was slightly bloody, still lying on the floor, his wand broken beside him. He wasn't a threat anymore.

"I could use the Cruciatus curse on you... Just like you did with me and with the innocent muggles, witches, and wizards." Elwia seethed and kept her wand pointed at him.

"Why don't you? I don't think you have it in you." Dolohov grinned and slowly stood up, glancing behind him where some of his fellow Death Eaters were making their way to them.
