A song for the chapter: One Way Or Another - Blondie

Was it cruel of Elwia to not write back to her mother? Trust me, she had tried to, but she didn't know what to say. There were at least ten scrunched-up papers on the floor—Elwia's failings.

It felt strange, not knowing if she was really who she thought she was. Elwia wasn't sure she could trust her mother's word anymore; everything seemed like one big paradox. A lot of things went against what her mother had said.

Elwia did eventually write her a letter, although it did take her a little more than a week to answer. The letter was just a confusing pool of words. She didn't even remember what she had written, since she was kind of in a haze of anger and drunkenness. It was probably something along these next lines:

I hope you're telling the truth, I don't like lying. Please don't lie to me. I am Delacour, right? But that is a pretty big mistake to forget a whole person from a family tree book, are you sure you're not lying? Why is everyone lying, mum? This dude, Remus Lupin, who's my teacher, literally admitted something about telling my true identity. So why do you lie, what is my true identity? Please answer; I miss you.

Sorry,

Elwia Delacour(??)

Yeah. Elwia felt kind of embarrassed, but Mitski had probably already flown to France, to Estaing, where her mother lived. There was nothing she could do.

There was going to be a really big exam today at Charms. Elwia pulled an all-nighter to study, but she didn't study; she couldn't, physically and mentally she couldn't. Instead, Elwia looked at her ceiling for 7 hours, while Scorpius softly slept on top of her stomach. She felt tired, yet she couldn't sleep. Lately, Elwia had been having strange dreams—nightmares, really. They felt like flashbacks, though none of them made sense. She couldn't remember any of those things actually happening.

"Woah, did you sleep at all?" Theo asked, looking at Elwia a bit concerned.

"I did, but those five practices a week that Bletchley makes us do have just really taken a toll on me." Elwia partially lied. She hadn't slept, but those practices had truly been exhausting.

"You're lying, Wia. I can tell." Astoria whispered with frowned brows.

Elwia glanced to look at Astoria and immediately her eyes softened as she noticed something different about her.

"You wore your hair curly." Elwia noted with a smile.

Astoria's eyes went big, and her hands immediately went to her hair, touching it.

"Does it look bad?" She asked nervously.

"Your hair is beautiful, and so are you. Look, Adrian is coming over to the table." Elwia whispered with a smirk and gently squeezed her upper arm as reassurance.

"Hey, Ri." Adrian said and gave Astoria a kiss on the cheek.

Astoria smiled shyly.

"Your hair looks cute; I like it. I was wondering when you would start wearing it curly again." Adrian smiled and started shoving sausages up his mouth.

Astoria's face went pink, and she started smiling bigger than Elwia had ever seen before. She looked so beautiful that Elwia grew happier just by watching her. Astoria Greengrass was like the sun.

"Are you not going to eat?" Malfoy muttered, looking at Elwia.

Elwia glanced up at the boy sitting in front of her with mixed emotions. Malfoy had been acting a bit different towards Elwia ever since what happened. Sure, he was still a cunt, but he didn't call her names anymore. He also had a weird way of asking and making sure Elwia had eaten.
