A song for the chapter: As the World Caves In - Matt Maltese

May 1st, 1998 – The Day Before the Fall

"I will miss you so much. And you as well, little one." Elwia hugged Fleur, carefully caressing her stomach.

"We'll see each other again someday. Don't you worry, Elwia." Fleur smiled.

Elwia simply nodded and went outside, where Harry, Ron, and Griphook were already standing, waiting for Hermione and her.

"It's taking her ages." Harry sighed.

"Come outside, Mione. You can't look that hideous," Elwia called, and then the door opened, and a sight so atrocious came into view that everyone did their best to hide their grimacing expressions.

"Well? How do I look?" Hermione, disguised as Bellatrix under the Polyjuice Potion, asked.

"Hideous." Ron snorted and began walking up the sandhill.

"You don't look any better with that beard and curly bob. Who were you supposed to be again?" Elwia smirked and went to stand by Harry.

Harry glanced to see that everyone was ready before he spoke to Griphook.

"Alright, Griphook? We're relying on you now. If you get us past the guards into the vault... The sword's yours." Harry stated, and Griphook nodded with a sly smile.

Elwia couldn't help but get a bad feeling in her stomach, doubting Griphook's trustworthiness.

They then apparated to a sketchy, dark corner in Diagon Alley. Harry quickly raised Griphook on top of his shoulder, and Elwia went to her brother's side, leaving no space between them. Ron threw the Invisibility Cloak over them before heading towards Gringotts.

The amount of security had doubled by four since the last time Elwia had visited Gringotts. She suddenly found herself missing Kreacher' company, who had been there to go with her.

The goblin at the front desk seemed to be too occupied with his paperwork to notice that Bellatrix and Dragomir Despard—Ron's new identity—were standing in front of him.

Hermione, or Bellatrix, tried coughing twice to catch the goblin's attention, but it was no use.

"I wish to enter my vault." She stated.

"Identification?" The goblin asked, still not looking up from his book that he was scribbling something in.

"I hardly think that would be necessary." Hermione answered, trying to sound arrogant just like Bellatrix would.

"Madam Lestrange." The goblin said as he finally looked up, surprised at first but then turning somewhat suspicious. He then descended down the stairs and disappeared out of sight.

"I don't like to be kept waiting!" Hermione raised her voice, beginning to grow more anxious now.

"They know she's an impostor. They have been warned." Griphook murmured, for which Elwia gave him a small scowl. If anything, his very encouraging words would only make matters worse.

"Madam Lestrange, would you mind presenting your wand?" An older-looking goblin appeared into view, having the earlier goblin stand behind him.

"And why should I do that?" Hermione questioned.

"It's the bank's policy! I'm sure you understand, given the current climate." The goblin responded with a slightly accusing tone.

"No! I most certainly do not understand!" Hermione argued and tilted her head forward.
