this is a state of grace
this is the worthwhile fight
love is a ruthless game
unless you play it good and right
these are the hands of fate
you're my achilles heel
this is the golden age of something right and real

Diego couldn't help but to admire you from the bed as he watched you do your nightly skin care routine. He had done it for all these years, the habit developing the first time you spent the night. You just looked so peaceful, so calm. He enjoyed the atmosphere it created right before going to sleep, like you were ending the day on a good note.

His life around him was chaos for years until he met you. Diego never in his life thought he would fall in love with someone so kind hearted, so thoughtful, and could handle him. He thought he would end up alone or dying before he met his person. Now he found his person and it was an uphill battle to get here.

Diego was never one to spend all his time with one person, you changed that. He stopped the one night stands and threw away phone numbers from old flames. He began to go out of his way to make you laugh and smile, and make you feel like you were the only person in the world. He hadn't felt this strongly about someone before.

Your first fight was brutal. Screaming and crying, you almost broke up with him that night. He vowed to never make you cry ever again. He knew then that he was going to go out of his way to impress you everday and let you know how much you meant to him. He never raised his voice at you after that.

The time you did take a break (WE WERE ON A BREAK) was when the world was ending for the second time. He had gone off the deep end all over again and you couldn't handle it. You tried desparately to make it work but you just couldn't. Diego refused to give up on you and went to see you everyday to beg for you back. He showed up to your home one day, he had obviously been drinking and he was crying. He cried and cried into your lap about how sorry he was and that he'd never do that to you again.

The third time the world was ending, you had gotten seriously injured. Diego's whole world was, literally, falling apart around him. He stayed by your side as best he could to save you. He kept telling himself he was doing this to save you but realized it was hurting you, then it was too late.

Now here he was a year later watching you get ready for bed. It was just the two of you and a comfortable silence in the air. He wasn't stressed out, you weren't worrying about him, and everything was still in tact.

"What're you thinking about?" You asked, peering over your shoulder at him.

"Nothin just.." Diego trailed off, a small smile on his face. "Nothin."

"Okay..." You replied, raising an eyebrow at him before standing up and walking over to the bed. "Wanna watch real housewives?"

"You bet." He agreed, climbing into his spot in the bed.

You climbed in after him and snuggled into his chest. In the end, everything you had gone through together was worth it.
