"Have you tried Saige?" Annie mutters. I glance down at my phone screen, seeing that the message I sent Saige almost ten minutes ago still hasn't been read. I know that she's at work at the flower shop, and I also know that she has a habit of leaving her phone up front while she's in the back with all of the flowers.
"Nothing from either of them," I answer in a low voice.
"Seems like you three just want to be sitting in jail." Looking up, I'm met with cocky smirks on Dave and Phoebe's faces.
Screw it.
"Seems like you two won't be on "vacation" much longer." I take a look at Phoebe, watching the cocky smirk fall from her lips.
"You're not making much sense," Dave chuckles.
Grabbing the stapled papers from my purse, I set them on top of the table we're all sitting at. Satisfaction runs through me as I notice Phoebe's face drastically pale.
"What's this? Nothing that we need," Dave asks. I clasp my hands together, slightly cocking my head to the side.
"Would you like to explain this one, Phoebe?" I ask in a sickly sweet tone.
"You really are a mean girl," she mumbles.
Dave snatches the packet of printed blog posts Phoebe made years ago. Annie and Saige picked some of their favorite ones about me and printed them off last night.
"You both should be receiving a call from your supervisor sometime today. We sent them the link," Annie smiles.
Dave's angry glare turns to Phoebe, who visibly shrinks lower in her chair.
"I should've never agreed to work with you!" he seethes. Chucking the small packet back towards me, he shoves his chair back and walks out of The Diner. Giving me one last hurt look, Phoebe slowly stands up and follows Dave's footsteps.
Lucky's Bar
Saige
"Thanks, Dags!" I smile, eagerly taking a bite of the chicken Caesar wrap he made me for lunch. I've been craving it for the last hour.
Hearing the bell ding above the door, I turn to see Beth walk in and take a seat on the other side of Rio.
"Hey, congrats Councilwoman!" Voting was this morning and the results came out just fifteen minutes ago; Beth won by a landslide.
"Thanks, Hon," she smiles at me. Her gaze turns to Rio. "You missed the big show," she says.
The Three Amigos--Beth, Ruby, and Annie--were supposed to meet with Secret Service today to give them the evidence they had on Nick. Last week, Rio had given the go ahead to drop the blog bombshell but he wanted to be there to see their reactions.
"You didn't go?" I ask, taking another bite.
"Something else came up," Rio says. I can clearly hear the annoyance in his tone and how his shoulders tense up.
"Oh. Well, it worked. They're pissed, and everything against the girls' and you will be inadmissible," Beth says. Thank God.
"When do you give your acceptance speech?" Rio asks.
"Four," Beth answers. Leaning over the bar top, Rio grabs a yellow envelope and slides it over to Beth.
"What's in it?" I wonder.
