Later that day, the air felt heavy with a sense of unease. Seungcheol and Jeonghan had shared a quiet moment of hope, thinking that maybe, after their confrontation with Jaehyun, things would finally settle down. But Jaehyun had always been unpredictable, and despite his storming off earlier, something about the look in his eyes had stayed with Seungcheol. He couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't over.
As the final bell rang, students began filtering out of the school. Seungcheol had stayed behind in the library to finish an assignment, while Jeonghan was outside waiting for him, talking with Mingyu and Seungkwan about their plans for the weekend. Seungcheol promised he'd meet up with them once he was done.
But what none of them knew was that Jaehyun hadn't left school grounds. He had been watching. Waiting.
The library was quiet, the faint sound of pages turning and keyboards clicking the only thing breaking the silence. Seungcheol was just about to pack up when he felt a presence looming behind him. He turned, his stomach sinking when he saw Jaehyun standing in the aisle between the bookshelves, his expression dark and unreadable.
"Jaehyun?" Seungcheol's voice was cautious, his senses immediately going on high alert. "What are you doing here?"
Jaehyun didn't respond right away. Instead, he took a step closer, his eyes flashing with something dangerous. "You really thought you could steal Jeonghan from me?" he finally said, his voice low and venomous.
Seungcheol's heart pounded in his chest, the fear he'd been trying to push away all day suddenly bubbling to the surface. "I didn't steal anyone, Jaehyun," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. "Jeonghan isn't yours to control."
That was the wrong thing to say.
In an instant, Jaehyun's calm façade shattered. Before Seungcheol could react, Jaehyun lunged at him, his fists swinging. The first punch landed squarely on Seungcheol's jaw, sending him stumbling back into a bookshelf. Pain exploded in his face, and he barely had time to recover before Jaehyun was on him again, fists flying in a blur of rage.
"You're nothing!" Jaehyun spat, each word punctuated by another brutal blow. "You think you're good enough for him? You think you can take my place?"
Seungcheol tried to shield himself, but Jaehyun was relentless, his punches fueled by a twisted sense of possessiveness and jealousy. Blood trickled from Seungcheol's nose, and he felt his body growing weaker with every hit. The room spun, and all he could do was hope someone would find him before it was too late.
Meanwhile, outside, Jeonghan was starting to wonder what was taking Seungcheol so long. He glanced toward the school doors, an uneasy feeling settling in his stomach. Mingyu and Seungkwan were still chatting, unaware of Jeonghan's growing anxiety.
"I'll be right back," Jeonghan said abruptly, cutting off the conversation as he made his way back inside the school.
As he walked through the hallways, his footsteps quickening, the uneasy feeling only grew stronger. He couldn't explain it, but something felt wrong. Really wrong.
When he reached the library, the sight that greeted him stopped him cold.
Seungcheol was slumped against a bookshelf, his face bloodied and bruised, while Jaehyun stood over him, fists still clenched, breathing heavily as if he wasn't finished yet.
"Jaehyun, what the hell are you doing?!" Jeonghan's voice echoed through the library as he rushed forward, shoving Jaehyun away from Seungcheol. His eyes were wide with shock and fury as he knelt beside Seungcheol, who was barely conscious, his body trembling from the pain.
