Jeonghan and Seungcheol arrived at the movie theater, the evening air crisp with the promise of fall. The lights of the marquee flickered above them, showcasing a lineup of films to choose from. Seungcheol had let Jeonghan pick the movie, but he hadn't really cared about what they'd end up watching. He was just happy to spend time with him.
"Have you decided yet?" Seungcheol asked, standing beside Jeonghan as they both stared up at the options.
Jeonghan, who was trying to focus on the movie titles, kept sneaking glances at Seungcheol. He looked effortlessly handsome in his casual jacket and jeans, his usual geeky charm turned up a notch. Jeonghan smiled to himself, feeling a small sense of pride that they were here together.
"How about this one?" Jeonghan pointed to a romantic comedy, one that looked lighthearted and fun. "It's supposed to be good."
Seungcheol glanced at the title and grinned. "A rom-com? Sure, why not?"
Jeonghan raised an eyebrow playfully. "What? I didn't peg you as the romantic comedy type."
Seungcheol laughed. "I'll watch anything if I'm watching it with you."
Jeonghan rolled his eyes but couldn't hide his smile. "Alright, cheesy, let's get our tickets."
They bought their tickets and headed inside, grabbing popcorn and drinks before finding their seats in the dimly lit theater. As they settled into their chairs, the previews started to roll, and Jeonghan felt a strange mix of nervousness and excitement. The room was dark, the only light coming from the screen, and the quiet hum of the audience filled the space. He had been on dates before, but none of them felt like this—so intimate and comfortable, even though his heart was racing.
As the movie began, Seungcheol leaned back in his seat, glancing sideways at Jeonghan. He looked peaceful, his eyes focused on the screen, a soft smile on his lips. There was something about seeing him like this, so unguarded, that made Seungcheol's chest tighten with affection.
Midway through the movie, during a particularly funny scene, Jeonghan laughed, the sound clear and genuine. Seungcheol found himself staring at him, unable to pull his gaze away. In that moment, he realized just how much he liked seeing Jeonghan happy—how much he liked being the reason Jeonghan smiled like that.
Without thinking, Seungcheol reached over and gently took Jeonghan's hand, his fingers sliding between his. Jeonghan glanced at him in surprise, but the smile that spread across his face told Seungcheol everything he needed to know.
Jeonghan's heart skipped a beat when Seungcheol's hand enveloped his. It was warm and steady, just like Seungcheol himself. Without a word, he squeezed Seungcheol's hand in return, feeling the calmness settle over him. He hadn't expected to feel this much just from holding hands, but here they were, sitting in a dark theater, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world.
By the time the movie ended, neither of them had paid much attention to the plot. They were both too focused on each other—on the small, shared moments between the jokes and the romantic scenes on screen. As the credits rolled, they lingered in their seats, reluctant to let go of the warmth that had settled between them.
"That was... cute," Jeonghan said with a soft laugh as they got up to leave, still holding hands.
"Yeah," Seungcheol agreed, glancing at Jeonghan with a smile. "But I think the company was the best part."
Jeonghan chuckled, playfully nudging him as they walked out of the theater. "You're really laying it on thick today, aren't you?"
Seungcheol grinned, his heart light as they stepped back out into the cool night air. "Only because it's true."
