The day of Seungkwan and Hansol's play had finally arrived, and the air around the school buzzed with excitement. Posters announcing the performance were plastered all over the hallways, and the auditorium was packed with students eager to see the show. Seungkwan, usually confident and dramatic in everyday life, was now a bundle of nerves backstage, adjusting his costume for the hundredth time.
Hansol, his usual calm self, sat nearby, quietly going over his lines. He noticed Seungkwan fidgeting and offered him a reassuring smile. "You'll be fine, Seungkwan. You're a natural," Hansol said, his voice calm and steady, but Seungkwan only glanced at him with wide eyes.
"That's easy for you to say!" Seungkwan hissed, his voice a frantic whisper. "What if I forget my lines? Or trip on stage? Or—"
Hansol reached out, grabbing Seungkwan's wrist gently. "Hey, relax. You've got this. We've practiced a hundred times, and you're amazing. Trust yourself."
Seungkwan exhaled, feeling a bit of calm wash over him. "You always know what to say, huh?" he muttered, grateful for Hansol's steady presence. But before he could say more, their director—the ever-dramatic theater teacher—stormed into the dressing room with a clipboard in hand, a look of excitement on his face.
"Everyone, listen up!" the teacher called out, clapping his hands. "We've made a last-minute adjustment to the script for dramatic effect. It's going to make the ending more... romantic."
Seungkwan's stomach flipped. He exchanged a glance with Hansol, who raised an eyebrow, curious but calm.
The director waved his clipboard in the air. "We've decided to add a kissing scene for the lead couple. It'll give the performance that extra touch of passion." He turned to Seungkwan and Hansol, grinning. "And it's between the two of you!"
Seungkwan's jaw dropped. "What?" His voice cracked in disbelief. "A k-kissing scene? You mean... me and Hansol?"
The director nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly! It's perfect. You two have great chemistry, and it'll leave the audience swooning."
Hansol blinked, but his expression remained neutral. "When did this happen?" he asked, his tone calm but with a hint of surprise.
"Just now! It's a creative decision!" The teacher seemed oblivious to the panic rising in Seungkwan. "It'll be at the end, during the final scene. Trust me, this will bring the whole play together."
Seungkwan felt his heartbeat skyrocket. He looked at Hansol, unsure of what to say. A kiss? On stage? In front of everyone?
Hansol, sensing Seungkwan's anxiety, placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's just acting," he said softly, though there was something unreadable in his eyes. "We've rehearsed everything else. We can handle this too."
Seungkwan gulped. He was used to being dramatic, used to playing roles that required emotion and flair, but this felt different. This wasn't just a part of the performance—it was Hansol. And somehow, that made everything more nerve-wracking.
When the lights dimmed and the play began, Seungkwan tried to focus on his lines, on the character he had worked so hard to embody. Hansol was as composed as ever, delivering his lines with precision, and the audience was captivated by the unfolding drama.
But as the final scene approached, Seungkwan's palms grew sweaty, his heart racing faster with every step closer to the moment the director had added in. The script called for them to confess their feelings in a moment of raw emotion, and then—now, with the new addition—the kiss.
