Chapter 9: A Hidden Melody
The school day was buzzing with energy as students prepared for the upcoming talent showcase. Soul was excited, but a bit nervous about performing. He had been practicing his dance routine with Keeho and Jongseob, but now he had a chance to showcase his singing too.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, Soul spotted Keeho leaning against the wall outside the cafeteria, chatting animatedly with Intak and Jiung. Soul approached, feeling a sense of warmth wash over him at the sight of Keeho's bright smile.
"Hey, Soul!" Keeho called out, his voice cheerful. "You ready for the showcase? I've got a surprise for you!"
"What kind of surprise?" Soul asked, raising an eyebrow.
Keeho stepped closer, his expression teasing. "I may or may not have been practicing a song just for you. Think of it as your personal concert!"
Soul felt a rush of excitement. "Really? You can sing?"
"Of course!" Keeho grinned, confidence radiating from him. "I've been working on it, and I think you'll like it. Let's find a place to practice before the showcase starts."
"Alright, lead the way!" Soul replied, his curiosity piqued.
Keeho took Soul by the hand, pulling him down the hallway, the excitement evident in his movements. They made their way to the bathroom, which was quiet and secluded. Keeho pushed the door open, glancing around to ensure they were alone. "Perfect! No distractions here."
Soul chuckled, slightly surprised by Keeho's choice of location. "In the bathroom?"
Keeho shrugged, a playful grin on his face. "What better place to rehearse? Besides, I know you'll appreciate my performance more in here."
"Alright, show me what you've got!" Soul encouraged, leaning against the sink as Keeho stepped into the center of the small room.
Keeho took a deep breath, his playful demeanor shifting to one of focus. He closed his eyes, letting the music play in his mind as he began to sing. His voice filled the bathroom, rich and smooth, resonating beautifully against the tiled walls.
Soul was captivated. Keeho's singing had an infectious energy, the kind that made you feel alive. The notes soared, and Keeho's passion shone through with every lyric. Soul found himself lost in the moment, a smile creeping onto his face.
As Keeho finished the song, he opened his eyes, looking at Soul expectantly. "What did you think?"
"Wow, that was amazing!" Soul exclaimed, genuinely impressed. "I didn't know you had such a beautiful voice."
Keeho laughed, brushing his hair back with a cocky smile. "I told you I was full of surprises! But you know what would make it better?"
"What's that?" Soul asked, intrigued.
"If you joined me for a duet! We could wow the crowd together," Keeho suggested, his tone playful yet sincere.
Soul felt a wave of nervousness wash over him. "I don't know if I'm ready to sing in front of everyone especially because of my Korean."
"Come on! I'll be right there with you," Keeho urged, stepping closer. "Besides, it's just for fun. I'll make sure you shine."
Soul looked into Keeho's eyes, the warmth and encouragement making him feel more confident. "Okay, let's do it. But you have to promise not to laugh if I mess up."
"Promise! I'll only laugh if you forget the wink," Keeho replied with a wink, making Soul chuckle.
Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as Keeho moved even closer, their faces mere inches apart. "You know, I love spending time with you like this," he said softly, his voice low and sincere.
Soul's heart raced at Keeho's words. "I like it too."
Keeho's gaze locked onto Soul's, the playful teasing fading into something more intense. "You're really special to me, Soul."
Before Soul could respond, the sound of laughter from the hallway broke the moment. Keeho stepped back, his playful demeanor returning as he flashed a grin. "Well, we should probably get back before they wonder what we're doing in here."
Soul nodded, feeling a mix of disappointment and excitement. "Yeah, we wouldn't want to get caught."
As they walked back into the bustling hallway, Keeho nudged Soul playfully. "Just wait until you hear us sing together. It'll blow everyone away!"
"I hope so!" Soul replied, feeling a sense of determination wash over him. With Keeho by his side, he knew they could take on the showcase together.
As the day continued, Soul found himself looking forward to their performance even more, excited to share this moment with Keeho and showcase their bond.
