Chapter 17: A Date to Remember
As they arrived at the café, Soul couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. The warm, inviting atmosphere was filled with laughter and the sweet aroma of baked goods. He glanced around, taking in the colorful decor and cheerful chatter.
"Welcome to Sweet Harmony! The best place for desserts and all things delicious," Keeho announced with a dramatic flourish as they stepped inside. He looked around, an exaggerated expression of awe on his face. "If this isn't the cutest place in the world, I don't know what is!"
Soul chuckled, feeling a flutter of warmth at Keeho's infectious energy. "It does look cute!" he agreed, glancing at the menu board filled with mouthwatering options. "I think I might try the matcha cake."
"Ah, of course, you'd go for the most Japanese thing on the menu," Keeho teased, leaning closer. "You're such a stereotype, Soul!"
Soul's cheeks flushed slightly, a mix of embarrassment and affection. "I can't help it! It's what I grew up with!"
Keeho grinned, leaning back against the counter with a playful smirk. "Hey, I'm just saying, if you want to blend in, maybe try something a bit less... unique."
"Unique is my middle name!" Soul shot back, a spark of defiance in his eyes.
"Really? I thought it was 'Weird,'" Keeho retorted, winking at him.
Soul laughed, shaking his head. "Fine, I'll admit I'm a little weird. But that's what makes me, me!"
"Exactly! And I love it," Keeho replied, his voice genuine as he stepped closer, their shoulders brushing together. "You're like a rare Pokémon—totally different from everyone else, and I'm all about catching you!"
Soul's heart raced at Keeho's words, and he felt a mix of bashfulness and excitement. "Okay, now you're just being silly."
Keeho put a hand over his heart dramatically. "Silly? Me? Never!" He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I'm basically a romantic genius, you know."
Soul rolled his eyes playfully, feeling a warmth spread through him. "You sure have a funny way of showing it."
"Funny? More like fabulously charming," Keeho replied, flashing a wink that made Soul's stomach flutter.
As they ordered their desserts—Soul with his matcha cake and Keeho opting for a decadent chocolate lava cake—they settled at a cozy corner table, the perfect spot for conversation. Keeho leaned back in his chair, a mischievous grin on his face.
"So, tell me, what's the weirdest thing about growing up in Japan? I want all the juicy details!" he urged, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Soul paused for a moment, thinking. "Well, there was this one time I tried to teach my friends a traditional Japanese dance during recess. They didn't really understand it, and we ended up making fools of ourselves!"
Keeho burst into laughter, leaning forward. "I wish I could've seen that! You know what? You should show me the dance sometime. I'm all for making fools of ourselves!"
"Really? You'd want to learn it?" Soul asked, surprised by Keeho's enthusiasm.
"Absolutely! Just imagine: Keeho and Soul take the school by storm with their epic Japanese dance moves!" He punctuated his words with an exaggerated pose, arms in the air as if he were already performing.
Soul couldn't help but laugh, the sound bubbling out of him like the sweetest melody. "You're ridiculous!"
"Ridiculously charming," Keeho corrected, grinning widely. "But I like that you're different. It keeps things interesting."
"Thanks, I guess," Soul replied, feeling his cheeks heat up again. "It's nice to have someone who appreciates my... uniqueness."
Keeho leaned in closer, his expression softening. "Seriously, Soul. You bring something special to the table. Besides, who else would I get to embarrass myself dancing with?"
Soul felt a surge of warmth at Keeho's words, grateful for the connection they were building. "I'm glad I can be that person for you."
They continued chatting, sharing stories about their lives and laughing over little quirks that made them who they were. Keeho's playful sass was the perfect balance to Soul's gentle charm, and Soul found himself completely at ease in Keeho's presence.
"Okay, I have to know," Keeho said suddenly, leaning forward with a conspiratorial grin. "What's your guilty pleasure when it comes to music?"
Soul felt a twinge of shyness. "Um, I really like some of the old J-Pop songs... and sometimes I sing them in the shower."
Keeho's eyes widened in playful shock. "Wait, you sing in the shower? I need to hear this! We should totally have a shower concert at your place!"
Soul burst out laughing, shaking his head. "No way! I'm not performing in the shower!"
"Come on! It'll be fun! You can show off your skills," Keeho insisted, his voice teasing but filled with genuine excitement.
Soul couldn't help but smile at Keeho's antics. "Okay, but only if you join me! We can have a duet in the shower."
Keeho's jaw dropped in exaggerated disbelief. "A duet? Now we're talking! Just imagine how epic that would be!"
As they finished their desserts, the warmth of the café and Keeho's infectious spirit surrounded them. Soul felt an overwhelming sense of happiness, realizing that this moment—filled with laughter, shared stories, and playful teasing—was something he had never experienced before.
As they left the café, Keeho linked his arm with Soul's, and Soul's heart fluttered at the simple gesture. "So, where to next? The world is our oyster!"
"Uh, how about we just walk around for a bit? I want to show you some of my favorite spots," Soul suggested, his excitement bubbling over.
"Lead the way, unique one!" Keeho declared dramatically, and Soul couldn't help but smile as he guided them through the bustling streets, feeling grateful for the unexpected connection blossoming between them.
