Chloe pov:
It's been a few weeks already, and it's soon going to be Thanksgiving. I haven't told Red yet since I don't wanna worry her too early, but I'll let her know soon enough. It's Wednesday, and it's not til Friday. I'll just try to find a way to let her know tonight without maybe upsetting her. At our table for lunch, we were chatting as per usual.
Leah: So what are you guys gonna do this Friday?
Chloe: I'm not sure yet....
Jack: Will you guys be having supper with your own families that day?
Red looked confused, trying to understand what anyone was trying to say.
Mona: Oh, does Red not know?
Mona covers her mouth.
Red: Know what? What is anyone at this table even talking about?
She looms at me, trying to see if I'd be the one to tell her.
Chloe: Well, red.... Friday is Thanksgiving.
I awkwardly smiled, trying to lighten the mood.
Red: And that is?.....
She shook her head, gesturing her hand as if she's asking me to finish that sentence.
Chloe: it's um sorta like a holiday but less, it's usually when you spend time with your family and celebrate what you are thankful for.....
I turn around. I did not want to see her reaction. I didn't hear Red say anything, so I waited 10 more seconds to turn around. She was looking at her plate with a blank stare, her lips slightly parted, and her eyebrows furrowed. Not a word left that mouth. After processing what happened, she shook her head, got up, and left. I tried to get up to follow her. Without turning around to face me, she stops only a few feet from the table.
Red: Chloe, do not follow me....
She said in a stern voice, yet her voice cracked. She then walked off, not lo9king back at us. I watched her leave the room before slowly sitting back down.
Leah: What was that about?
Chloe: I have a feeling I may know..... but I'm not fully sure yet.
Mona: Why didn't she want you to follow her?
Jack: Yeah, you guys are always side by side.
I took a moment to collect my thoughts. I face my friends again.
Chloe: I don't think Red is gonna like Thanksgiving.....
Leah: Why? It's such a good holiday, plus she'll get to see her mom.
Chloe: I think that's the problem.
I say, cutting her off.
Chloe: This is why I tried not to tell her.... I was gonna try to tell her tonight in a more easier way. She knows now, so it's too late for that.
I got up to try and find Red. I checked our dorm, the library, the halls. I even went to Audrey's office to see if she was there.
Audrey: no sorry I haven't seen Red today.
I then sigh, closing the door. I went outside and walked along the field. I then remembered our mural was there and l9oked at it only to see Red standing right in front of it. I slowly walked up to her. As I got closer, she gestured her hand to stay back, still facing away from me. I stopped but didn't speak.
Red: I know it's you, Chloe....
I hesitated before speaking.
Chloe: I just want to understand Red.....
