Chapter 43 - Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend

"What is that thing?" You ask as you and Beauchamp look down at the alien implant moving around in a glass box.

"Cybernetic for sure. Alive? I don't know. It's brain, or its hard drive is located here in this hub." William says and show it on the computer. "A tiny fusion reactor provides an indefinite supply of energy. In comparison, on the Salvare.. our reactor's the size of a baby elephant."

"So we're basically earthworms compared to the Achaia?" Zayn asks him.

"Earthworms? Don't flatter yourself."

"Was it in communication with the Achaia, sending them everything Sasha saw, heard?" Beauchamp asks.

"I haven't detected any signals emanating from it, but there is still.. There's so much we don't know about this technology."

"That thing sat in Sasha's head for weeks, dug into every part of his brain, and took control of his higher functions, so could it do the same to Javier?" Zayn asks.

You frown at Zayn. "You want to turn Javier into a zombie?"

"This thing runs on software, right? Just like any other computer." He looks at William. "Uh, no offence. If we could rewrite it, or I guess if William could rewrite it, you could remove all the nasty bits and bytes and maybe Javier will wake up."

"Yeah, maybe he could die." Beauchamp then says.

"Yeah, maybe he could die. He's already dying. He's brain-dead. And if he could talk, he would tell us to do it."

"Open the box." William says.

Before Zayn opens the box you turn to William. "William. Just be careful, alright?"

He smiles and gives you a nod. Zayn opens the box and he moves to grab it, which he can and he hold it. His eyes glow blue and he grunts. Then when he's done, he lets it go and Beauchamp hurriedly closes the box. William groans.

"Are you okay?" You ask worriedly.

"If I could sweat, I'd be a puddle right now." He sees your worried expression. "I'm okay."

"Okay, so.. what, we cut open an Javier's head now?" Beauchamp asks.

Zayn takes the box. "Pretty sure the implant will do exactly what it needs to all on its own." He says and opens it over Javier. It crawl into his nose.

"What now?" Beauchamp asks William.

"How should I know?"

"Oh, I hate bugs. I need a shower." You stroke your body as if washing yourself.

"You weren't even close to it." William chuckles.

"I feel like it's all over me." You say shuddering and leave the med lab.

Erik asks what Harper did to the guards and wonders how it was even possible for her, but she doesn't know. He offers her his tag, but tells her to hold up her end of the bargain. Harper tells him to take Jana to the Artifact because the Achaia never abandon their friends and she takes his tag.

"Oliver, we're making our way to the alien city now." Ethan informs him through the comms.

"Copy that." Oliver answers.

Oliver then hear a creature crawling outside on the shuttle. Then the light turn off.

"Shit."
