Chapter 25 - Stoned

Ethan notices a beautiful flower. His first thought is to pick it for you, but he shakes that thought away. But he still picks up a flower and smell it.

"Do you feel weird? Like.. warm and.. fuzzy and.."

"And completely stoned out of my mind." Jason says looking up at the giant tree they're standing under.

"Yeah.. Like you're in a dream."

"You know, if this moon was my moon.. I'd build a house right.. over there." Jason points. "Thatched roof. White walls. Stone fireplace."

"I can see that.. But I would put it.. Oh, I would put it over there.. in that clearing by the water. The morning sun would be-"

Jason laughs.

"What's so funny?"

Jason sits down on the ground under the tree. "Sit down."

"We gotta get back to Yn. I mean, the others."

"Come on, sit down." Jason convinces him and Ethan sits down beside Jason.

"Oh." He sighs at the comfortable ground. "I'm never gonna leave.. If you build that house, I will move right in." He then tells Jason, sniffing the flower in his hand.

"You know, you couldn't help yourself." Jason smiles dazed. "Even in my dream. You still couldn't help yourself."

"I couldn't help what?"

"Telling me what to do.. how to do it.. how to do it the right way.. the Ethan way."

"Oh, no. No, Jason. That's not what I meant. That's not what I was saying.. Shit, I did that, didn't I? Why did I do that?"

Jason chuckle and look at him. "Well, you are a control freak. And a micromanager." He says and Ethan nods to that. "And you have this crazy, crazy saviour complex."

They laugh. Ethan snorts in his laugh and they both laugh harder. "Guilty as charged. I do."

Their laughter calms down and it gets silent again, then Jason turn to Ethan again.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Absolutely. You can ask me anything."

"Do you want Yn?" Jason ask him.

Ethan turn to him with wide eyes. "Whaaaat?" He drags out the word.

"Do you wanna be inside her?" He giggles.

"Geez, Jason.." Ethan says and looks away, but then turn to him again. "Do you?"

"What? No!" He laughs. "I'm asking you."

Ethan just looks at him for a moment. "Maybe." He leans back in his seat staring out at nothing and Jason smirks. "Yeah.. I do.. I really, really do, Jason. I wanna be inside her sooo bad. I wanna feel her walls clench around my c-"

"Okay! Way too much information!" Jason says and they laugh.

Their laughter eventually settles down, and Ethan stares at the flower in his hand.

"Do you love her?"

Ethan looks at Jason with a pout. He does, he really does love you.

"You do!" He pokes him in the side teasingly. "Why don't you tell her? Or are you two already-"

"No."

"Why not?"

"She doesn't want me."

"That's bullshit."

"Even if she did. I'm not allowed to date her, remember? It's against the rules." Ethan reminds him.

"Blaaah.." Jason says and rolls his eyes annoyed. "You're a crazy person with a saviour complex but you're too coward to tell the girl you're in love with her." He then tells him, laughing.

Ethan chuckles a little, but frown slightly. It gets silent again.

"Can I ask you another question?" Jason ask him.

"If it's about me wanting to be inside someone again, then no." He chuckles, shaking his head.

Jason laughs and push his shoulder slightly. "No!" He then takes a breath and fiddle with the flower in his hand. "Would you ever abandon me?"

"No! Why would you even say that?"

Jason shrugs. "You abandoned your brother and niece. And you were technically going to abandon Yn too, if Dubois hadn't gone against your wishes and asked Yn to join the mission."

Ethan frowns. "Wow, I did.."

"Now you, about me. Be honest."

"Let me think.. Oh, I know." Ethan moves to lean on his elbow and looks at him. "You are your worst enemy. You don't believe in yourself at all, and.. it's gonna be the death of you. It's gonna be the death of everyone on this mission." He chuckles.

"So.. you're saying that if I took over this mission, that I would fail?"

Ethan nods affirmatively. They burst out laughing again.

"Wow. Okay. Well, I guess you better not die, because then we're all screwed." Jason tells him.

Ethan and Jason get back to the Artefact.

"Sasha?"

"His stuff is still here."

"Sasha, we're ready to leave!" Ethan calls out. "Where did he go?"

"Sasha?" Jason call out.

Then they hear footsteps and turn to see Sasha walking up to them. "Hey."

"Why didn't you answer us?" Ethan asks him.

"I had the weirdest dream."

"Ethan!" You call out and they turn toward the sound of your voice. "Jason!"

They see you and Zayn helping Bernie walk with his arms over your shoulders. Jason and Ethan run to you.

"What happened?"

"I have a tree growing inside me."

"It's the morphine talking. We need to get him back before his leg dies." Zayn says.

"We're gonna get you back to the shuttle. Zayn, when you get there, get the hazmat suit on him, just in case. Go." Ethan orders.

Jason takes your side to help carry him and start walking to the shuttle with Zayn and Bernie. Ethan turns to Sasha.

"Sasha, get your shit together and let's move." Ethan says and then call William. "William, we're on our way back."

"Is everything okay down there?"

"Prep medical. Bernie's hurt."

"Bernie you're gonna be okay." Zayn reassure him.

"I got him." Ethan says coming up to Zayn side and takes over his side to help Bernie.

"Hey, you know, Ethan. I really like you, and I respect you. And I fear you, too." Bernie blabber because of the morphine.

"Huh. Well, that's nice. Let's just keep moving."

"Hey, would you be my workout buddy? I don't know if you've noticed but I'm not as tone as everybody else. And you're, like, really fit and all. But I guess if we don't make it back to the Salvare it won't matter, because Zayn's gonna have to cut about 20 pounds off me."

"Should we gag him?" Jason asks.

You hear some rumbling and turn to see something crawling under the sand. "What is that?" You ask and everyone turn to follow your line of sight.

An almost spider like, giant creature jumps up from the sand and shrieks.

"Run!" Ethan shouts.
