Chapter 7 - The Walls are Your Friends

"A C-class flare just erupted from the star. I think we should re-route our course-"

Yerxa interrupts William. "Don't even think about changing course."

The ship rattles and shakes.

"Okay, get in closer.. closer.. closer.. and hit the FTL drive now."

August yelps slightly as the ship jerks harshly.

"William, now."

"The drive isn't responding."

Yerxa frown and turn to August when she goes up to him. "The last flare, to compensate, the shielding drew all the energy from the drive."

"Okay. Okay, that's okay. We'll go around the star one more time, get the drive back online and we'll try it again."

You and William share a worried look. The ship jerks violently.

"What is going on?"

"Now we've lost the FTL shielding." William informs.

"August?"

"The d-drive. It's just.. it's gone." She says and Yerxa looks at her with wide eyes.

The ship jerks more and everyone has to catch themselves.

August looks at you, you give her a look, glancing at your tablet in her hands then gesturing to the door. She glances at a distracted Yerxa and then unlocks the door with your tablet. Watching Yerxa, you sneak out the observation deck while he's distracted.

Ethan relish in the freedom to touch you. His longing for you is clear in the passion of his kiss. The kiss intensifies as you reciprocate his passion with your own love and affection for him. He glides is hands under your nightgown and to your ass, squeezing before roving all over your backside.

The room rumbles as if an earthquake or a crash right outside. You break apart in surprise and Ethan frowns as he holds you protectively.

"What was that?" He stand up from the bed, making you stay there while he checks the window.

Ethan's eyes open as he comes too after being awoken from soma.

"Ethan!" You caress his head as he starts to wake up. Looking at you he looks at you in shock again. "They need you!"

He then comes back to reality as he remembers everything. Ethan growls angrily and pulls himself up and off the bed. "Where's Yerxa?"

When he stands up his eyes widen and he looks down. Then sighs in relief, thankful he was fully clothed. If he had been in the shorts that everyone usually wear when in soma sleep, you would've seen his hard boner right now. Fortunately these pants held it down firmly enough, though his pants feel a lot tighter than usual now.

He shakes his head and avoids eye contact with you as he takes off into the corridor. Then the two of you run to get back to the observation deck. Another explosion outside the ship and you get thrown to the side by the force, then falling hardly down on floor. Ethan and you groan.

"Systems are overheating. Oxygen is burning out in space, and now we're leaking hydrogen. If the two mix and we sustain another blow." You manage to say as you try making your way to the observation deck.

"We explode. Okay. Pretend you're drunk at a bar. The walls are your friends. Come on, Yn. Move!" Ethan says.

"William, try-try rerouting the coolant from the life support system." Yerxa tells him as you and Ethan run into the observation deck.

"Those systems won't allow it. The temperature fluctuation would kill the crew." William tells him.

"Module One's oxygen has burned off. We need to purge our hydrogen." Ethan says, slightly panting. "William, vent the hydrogen tanks."

"Ethan, stand down." Yerxa says.

He turns and points to him. "We will deal with you and I later, but now, I need to save this ship." He turns back to William. "So vent that hydrogen."

"Venting hydrogen."

"We're not out of danger yet." You say looking at the readings on your tablet.

"August, get our systems back up and running. Do whatever it takes." Ethan tells her. "Just give me something to get us away from that star."

"On it."

"Yn. Help me out will you?" Ethan asks.

Again, before Yerxa even realises what you're gonna do, you have kicked his leg. He hunches over and you knee him in the nose. Behind him Ethan grab and put him in a chokehold, not choking just locked in a position he can't use his hands and he's compromised.

"You have put everyone's life in danger." Ethan grits out into his ear. "Not just this ship. The entire world, Ian!"

Ethan then push him harshly away and into the table. He grunts, clutching his stomach the hit.

"Get him out of my face." Ethan says, looking at Javier and Bernie. They go to Yerxa and pull him out of the observation deck.

"Systems are back up and running, but I don't know how long I can keep them going." August says.

"William, Yn, Crow's Nest." He says. You open the door from your tablet before he reaches it so he doesn't have to open it himself. Ethan gets in the pilot seat. "Give me manual control of the ship."

"I'm sorry, what?" William asks.

"Give me manual control of the ship."

"It's all yours."

You get in the co-pilot seat, not to fly, he controls alone, the seat is for when or if there is a need for a co-pilot. But you sit there so you can keep tabs on your tablet and give Ethan reports immediately and not have to shout from the observation deck.

"Michelle? August? Reinitialise that force field. Let me know when it's up." Ethan tells them.

"It's up. So is FTL." August says and gets in a seat and buckle in along with Michelle.

"On my go, Yn." Ethan says and you get it up ready on your tablet.

"What are you doing!?" Michelle asks.

"Come on, don't you tease me." Ethan mumbles to the star. He steers through the stars flares, avoiding them. "Hit the FTL drive, now!"

You initiate the FTL drive from your tablet. The ship speeds up and you get pushed back in your seat by the g-forces.
