Chapter 45 - Shockwave

(S2:E1)
The Salvare launch the FTL and the ship jerks.

"We're venting plasma from the impulse engines. The damage has shut me out of the systems." William informs.

"Jason, Beauchamp." Ethan says.

"On it." Jason leaves the observation deck, but Beauchamp is still standing there looking out the Crow's Nest.

"Beauchamp, now." Ethan says when he doesn't make a move to follow Jason.

Beauchamp then takes off running after Jason. In the corridor right outside the observation deck, the ship gets breached by debris and it hits Beauchamp, killing him. Everyone stumbles around on the ship from the impact force shaking the ship.

"Our hull has been compromised." William informs Ethan. "The FTL bubble's only at 89 percent. We can't jump."

"The main blast will hit us in five, four, three, two, one."

You unbuckle and get up from your seat. Then you head for the door to the observation deck which got automatically locked close. Looking out the window on the door, you gasp and turn around, covering your mouth.

Ethan whips his head to you. "Yn? What is it?" He gets up from the pilot seat and goes to you.

You feel your eyes watering and you move away from the door as Ethan approaches it. He looks at you worriedly, then turn to the window, seeing Beauchamp's dead body crushed by the debris that breached the hull. He sighs sadly.

"I've stabilised the Salvare by matching speed with the shockwave." William says.

"Thank you." Ethan tells him. "Alright. Everyone, listen up. I'm not gonna say that we're safe, but we are stable."

"We've lost the hull integrity just outside the observation deck." Jason informs. "Where's Beauchamp?"

"Zakir has been destroyed. The Achaia obliterated it, and now we are caught in its debris field. The FTL bubble is stabilising us for now, allowing us to ride the shock wave. Debris pierced the ship. We've lost Beauchamp." Ethan tells them.

"No, he was right behind me." Jason says.

"I know, Jason. But right now, I need everyone to put our heads together and figure out our next steps. Regroup in the mess hall."

"How are we gonna get there?"

"The long way. Come on, Yn." Ethan says and head for the stairs to the vents.

You climb up after him. He looks back to make sure you followed and keeps crawling through the vent. You hear muffled explosions and metal rattling around you. The ship shakes slightly and metal creaks around you, stopping, you take a few deep breaths. Ethan glance back and see you. He stops and turn to you.

"Yn? Hey, it's okay." He reaches for your hand and put his on top of yours to comfort you, but you pull it away from him.

"I'm fine."

Ethan frowns at you. "Yn-"

"Just go." You say, ushering him to keep going.

He looks at you confused but turn back around and keep going. Getting to the mess hall, Ethan comes out of vent. Everyone else is already there. He turns to help you.

"I got it." You say and ignore his offer to assist you, getting down on your own.

He sighs and walks to stand in front of the crew. "The Salvare is currently located within this sector of the shock wave."
