Danielle's Point Of View
Tomorrow marks Freddie's 3rd birthday, and I can't help but cry as I think about how fast he's growing up. It feels like just yesterday when Louis and I brought him home from the hospital for the first time, and now here we are, preparing for his birthday celebration. Today, Louis took him to the studio for Bring Your Child to Work Day, so our house is quiet, just me and my newborn, William, who is napping upstairs.
As I'm decorating, I hear a faint wail from the baby monitor. "Oh no, little guy," I whisper to myself, rushing upstairs. I gently open the nursery door, and there he is, my sweet William, crying for attention. "What's wrong, my love?" I coo, picking him up from the crib.
He squirms a bit, clearly hungry, so I settle into the rocking chair in the corner. As I position him to breastfeed, I can't shake the thoughts of Freddie from my mind. "Can you believe your big brother is turning three tomorrow?" I say softly to William, gazing down at his tiny face. "I swear, it feels like I blinked, and he grew up overnight."
William lets out a small sigh as he latches on, and I gently rock back and forth. "Freddie was just a baby not too long ago, and now he's running around, talking up a storm," I continue, a mix of pride and nostalgia swelling in my heart. "I just hope he knows how much we love him."
A few moments pass in comfortable silence, and I glance around the nursery, filled with toys and blankets. "One day, you two will be best friends," I whisper, thinking of the bond they will share. "Freddie will always look out for you, I just know it."
As I rock back and forth, the sound of my soft humming fills the nursery. I close my eyes for a moment, savoring the peacefulness, knowing that soon our home will be filled with laughter, joy, and the delightful chaos of a three-year-old's birthday party.
Just then, I heard two sets of footsteps coming up the stairs. It was probably Louis and Freddie coming back from the studio. I looked down at William, who was snuggled against me, and whispered, "Daddy and big brother are home."
As they reached the top of the stairs, I could hear Louis say softly, "Shh, buddy. We have to be quiet. Mummy is probably rocking baby brother to sleep right now."
Freddie replied, "Can I see him, Daddy? I want to help!"
Louis chuckled gently, "I know you do, but let's be quiet so we don't wake him up."
I smiled at the thought of Freddie being so excited about his little brother. I could almost feel the joy radiating from him. Just then, the door creaked open, and Louis peeked in, his eyes lighting up when he saw us.
"Hey, beautiful," he said, a warm smile spreading across his face. "How's my favorite little family doing?"
"Just rocking William to sleep," I replied, my heart swelling at the sight of my boys.
Freddie bounced on his feet, trying to catch a glimpse of his brother. "Can I give him a kiss, Mummy?"
"Of course, sweetheart," I said, and Louis leaned in closer, giving Freddie a gentle nudge to the side of the cradle.
As I watched the love in their eyes, I knew this was just the beginning of many sweet moments together.
Freddie tiptoed closer, his little face lighting up as he peered into the cradle. "He's so tiny, Mummy he exclaimed, his voice barely above a whisper. "Can I hold him?"
I chuckled softly, knowing how eager he was to take on the role of a big brother. "Not just yet, sweetie. He needs to stay cozy and asleep for a little while longer. But you can give him a gentle kiss."
