Sophie's Point of View
Tomorrow is our second-born daughter Camryn's first birthday, and I'm already feeling emotional just thinking about it. I can't believe how fast this year has flown. Upstairs, Camryn is peacefully taking her last nap of the day. blissfully unaware of the excitement brewing downstairs. Niall and I, along with our three-year-old daughter, Sarah, are busy decorating the living room for a teddy bear-themed celebration.
As we hang colorful streamers and balloons, Sarah's eyes light up with pure excitement.
"Mummy, can we put the big teddy bear over there?" she asks, pointing eagerly to an open spot in the corner.
I share a smile with Niall, who chuckles and nods. "That's a perfect spot, love. You're getting really good at this decorating thing!" he praises her warmly.
Sarah beams with pride, carefully dragging the oversized teddy bear across the room and placing it exactly where she wants it. I straighten a banner that reads, "Happy 1st Birthday, Camryn!" and let out a small sigh.
"I can't believe she's already turning one," I murmur to Niall, my voice catching a little with emotion.
Niall wraps an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. "I know, Soph. But look at all the love she's surrounded by. She's a lucky girl to have you and Sarah," he whispers, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple.
Sarah looks up at us, her blue eyes curious. "Why are you crying, Mummy?" she asks, tilting her head with concern.
I laugh softly, wiping a stray tear from my cheek. "Oh, sweetheart, these are happy tears. I'm just so proud of you and your sister."
Sarah gives me a big hug, patting my back in the sweetest way, like she's the one comforting me. "It's okay, Mummy. Camryn's going to love the party. Right, Daddy?"
Niall grins, nodding. "Absolutely, princess. She'll love every bit of it. You're helping make it so special for her."
Just as we're placing the last of the decorations, a small voice crackles over the baby monitor, breaking the quiet.
"Mama... Dada... Ra-Ra," Camryn's sweet, sleepy voice calls, the way she pronounces Sarah's name always melts my heart.
Sarah gasps, her face lighting up. "Camryn's awake, Mummy! Can I go get her, please?"
I glance at Niall, who smiles and nods. "Of course, love. Let's go surprise her together, shall we?"
The three of us tiptoe up the stairs, and as we enter her room, Camryn's little face lights up, her hands reaching eagerly through the bars of her crib.
"Hi, birthday girl," I coo, leaning down to scoop her up from the crib and giving her a big hug.
Camryn giggles, patting my face, then points over at Sarah. "Ra-Ra!" she exclaims, reaching for her sister.
Sarah grins, bouncing on her toes. "I missed you, Camryn! Guess what? We decorated everything for your party!"
Camryn's eyes widen, as if she understands every word, and she claps her hands with excitement.
Niall reaches over, tickling her side lightly. "You're going to love it, little one. We made it extra special, just for you."
Camryn lets out a joyful squeal, wriggling in my arms as Sarah dances around us in delight.
I catch Niall's eye over Camryn's head, feeling so grateful for this beautiful, chaotic, love-filled moment.
We decided to take them to the park to burn out some energy before bed, because tomorrow is a big day.
