Maya's Point Of View
It was 12:00 pm on Liam's 26th birthday, and I was exactly 40 weeks pregnant with our second baby boy. Our two-year-old son, Bear, was happily playing on the floor nearby while I watched him from the couch. Liam was working at the studio, so it was just me and Bear at home.
As I kept an eye on Bear, I suddenly felt a warm gush of water run down my leg. My eyes widened in realization.
"Oh no... Bear, it looks like your baby brother is ready to come meet us!" I murmured, half to myself and half to Bear.
Bear looked up, clutching his little toy truck, his face full of curiosity. "Mama, why wet?" he asked, pointing at the little puddle near my feet.
I managed a smile, even though my heart was racing. "Mama's okay, sweetheart. Baby brother is just ready to say hello."
I quickly grabbed my phone and dialed Liam. After a few rings, he picked up.
"Hey, babe! Everything okay?" Liam's voice sounded cheerful but grew concerned when I didn't respond right away.
"Liam, my water just broke," I said, trying to keep calm. "It's time!"
There was a pause on his end, and then a quick, "I'm on my way! Just breathe, love. I'll be there soon."
After hanging up, I turned to Bear and gave him a reassuring smile. "Daddy's coming, Bear. You're going to be such a great big brother."
Bear clapped his hands, clearly excited but not fully understanding what was happening. I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves, waiting for Liam to arrive so we could head to the hospital together.
A few minutes later, I heard the front door swing open, and Liam rushed inside, slightly out of breath but beaming with excitement.
"Alright, love," he said, coming over to me and gently helping me stand up. "Are you ready for this?"
I nodded, gripping his hand as another wave of excitement and nerves washed over me. "As ready as I'll ever be."
Bear looked up at both of us with wide eyes. "Mama, Daddy!" he giggled, sensing the excitement in the air, though he didn't quite understand.
I bent down and kissed his head. "Bear, you're going to Grandma and Grandpa's house, and when you come back, you'll have a baby brother!"
He clapped his hands, giggling. "Baby brudder!"
Just then, my mom walked in, having hurried over to watch Bear. She gave me a warm smile, pulling me into a gentle hug.
"Go bring that little one into the world," she said softly. "I've got Bear. We'll be just fine, won't we, Bear?"
Bear nodded, wrapping his little arms around her leg.
With one last look back at our son, Liam took my hand and led me out to the car. As we settled in, he gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.
"Happy birthday," I whispered, realizing this was one he'd never forget.
Liam chuckled, glancing over at me with warmth in his eyes. "Best birthday gift ever."
As he started the car and pulled out, we both felt the anticipation of meeting our second little boy grow stronger, knowing that soon, our family would be complete.
Before I could respond, another contraction hit, and I gripped his hand, breathing through the pain. It was the afternoon, and each passing hour brought us closer to meeting our little one. Liam stayed close, whispering words of encouragement and reminding me to breathe, his calm presence my anchor.
