Kathrine's Point of View

Tomorrow is my husband Harry's 28th birthday, but it's also our second-born, Edward's, first birthday. It feels surreal that a whole year has passed since we welcomed him into the world. Upstairs, Edward is taking his last nap of the day in his crib, completely unaware of the excitement brewing downstairs.

Down here, it's just me and our two-year-old, Darcy. Well, nearly three—her birthday is coming up on April 16th. She's full of energy, as always, and eagerly helping me decorate the living room for tomorrow's double celebration. Balloons in various shades of blue and green, Edward's favorite colors (not that he'd notice yet), are scattered all over. Darcy insists on sticking star-shaped cutouts on the walls, declaring, "Eddie likes stars, Mummy!"

The baby monitor sits on the coffee table, its quiet static a reassuring sound. Harry is at the studio today, working on his third album, and he won't be home until later tonight.

"Mummy! Look! I did it!" Darcy beams, her little face glowing with pride as she points to a cluster of streamers she's taped to the wall—though most of it is hanging lopsided.

"You're doing such a great job, sweetheart!" I say, crouching down to give her a quick hug. "Edward's going to love it. And Daddy too."

She grins, clutching another streamer. "Can I do more, Mummy? I wanna make it pretty for Eddie and Daddy!"

"Of course you can. Here, let me help you." I grab a piece of tape and guide her tiny hands, sticking the streamer higher on the wall.

"When's Daddy coming home?" Darcy asks, her voice a mix of curiosity and impatience.

"Not until after bedtime, love. He's working very hard on his music," I explain, brushing a stray curl out of her eyes.

"Daddy's songs are the best," she says confidently, climbing onto the couch to grab a balloon.

I chuckle, "They are, aren't they? Maybe we'll hear some new ones soon."

Darcy nods and then looks at the clock on the wall. "It's almost nighttime. Is Eddie still sleepy?"

"Let's check, shall we?" I pick up the baby monitor and smile at the sight of Edward on the small screen. He's still peacefully sleeping, his thumb tucked in his mouth. "He's fine, my love. Let's let him rest a little longer. We've got a busy day tomorrow."

Just then, the front door opens, and Harry's familiar voice calls out, "I'm home!"

"Daddy!" Darcy shouts, abandoning her balloon and sprinting toward the door.

I can't help but laugh as I follow her. Harry scoops her up in one arm, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Have you been helping Mummy, love?"

"I'm decorating for Eddie and you!" she announces proudly, throwing her arms around his neck.

Harry glances over her shoulder at me, a smile tugging at his lips. "How's it going, love?"

"Darcy's been a great helper," I say, stepping forward to kiss him. "Everything's almost ready. How was the studio?"

"Productive," he says, setting Darcy down. "But I couldn't wait to get home." He looks around at the half-finished decorations and grins. "Looks like someone's been working hard."

"Me, Daddy!" Darcy says, tugging on his hand. "I did the stars!"

Harry crouches down to her level, his green eyes sparkling. "Well, they look amazing. You're so clever, Darce."
