Sophie's Point of View

Today's the day. The day we finally find out the gender of baby number three. It feels surreal. Niall and I have been counting down the days for this ultrasound, and now it's finally here. I can hardly believe it's been almost four years since Sarah was born, and in just three days, she'll be turning four. Time has flown by so quickly.

Sarah has been practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. Every day this week, she's asked, "Mummy, is the baby a girl or a boy?" She's so curious, imagining all the fun things she could do with a baby brother or sister. She doesn't really have a preference—she just loves the idea of being a big sister again.

I was getting everything together this morning, packing her snacks and toys for the appointment, when she came running into the room with a picture in her hand.

"Mummy, do you think the baby will like this?" she asked, holding up a crayon drawing of a rainbow, a sun, and what looked like a little stick figure.

I smiled, bending down to her level. "Of course, sweetheart. The baby will love all of your drawings. You're going to be such a wonderful big sister."

She beamed, clutching the picture to her chest, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of love for my sweet girl. Sarah was always so eager to take care of everyone, even at her age. I was proud of how much she had grown over the past few years.

Niall came in then, looking as calm and collected as always, but I could tell he was just as excited as I was. He reached down to give me a quick kiss on the cheek. "Are you ready, love?" he asked, his eyes full of anticipation.

I grinned up at him, feeling the same mixture of excitement and nerves. "I'm ready. Let's do this," I said, squeezing his hand.

As we made our way out to the car, I couldn't help but glance at Sarah, who was practically jumping with excitement. I could see the wheels turning in her little head as she wondered what the answer would be. "Do you think it'll be a boy or a girl, Mommy?" she asked, her eyes wide and full of wonder.

"I don't know, sweetie. It could be either one. But no matter what, we're going to be so happy," I replied, trying to ease some of my own nerves by focusing on her pure excitement.

The drive to the clinic felt like it took forever. I kept glancing over at Niall, who was smiling softly as he drove. "How are you feeling, Soph?" he asked after a few minutes of comfortable silence.

"I'm good, just a little nervous," I admitted. "It's hard not to wonder, you know? I'll be happy either way, but it's just such an exciting moment."

"I'm sure it'll be perfect no matter what," Niall said with a reassuring smile. "We're going to have a baby, and that's all that matters."

We arrived at the clinic, and after a short wait, we were called into the ultrasound room. Sarah's eyes were wide with wonder as she looked at the equipment. "I want to see the baby!" she exclaimed, tugging on my sleeve.

The technician smiled warmly and started getting everything set up. Sarah climbed onto the chair beside me, leaning in to get a good look at the monitor. As the technician applied the gel to my belly and moved the wand around, the image of our baby appeared on the screen.

"There's the baby," the technician said. "And here's the baby's heartbeat."

Sarah gasped and her face lit up. "I hear it! I hear the baby's heart!" she said in awe, pressing her hand to her chest as if to feel the rhythm of the baby's heartbeat herself.
