Sophie's Point Of View
As I scrolled through my phone, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. Tomorrow was Sarah's first birthday, and already, tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. It felt like just yesterday that I was in the hospital, cradling my tiny girl for the first time.
I glanced at the baby monitor resting on the table in front of the couch, hoping to catch the moment she stirred from her nap. The quiet house felt both comforting and overwhelming; with Niall at work, it was just me and my thoughts in the living room.
"What should I do for your birthday, sweet girl?" I whispered to myself, glancing at the pictures on my phone. I could almost hear Sarah's giggles as she got ready to dig into her cake tomorrow.
As I wiped a stray tear from my cheek, I reminded myself, "I need to focus on the joy ahead. You're going to be one!"
I could already picture the balloons and decorations I wanted to set up, and the way Niall's face would light up when he saw her dive into her cake. I let out a soft laugh at the thought, excitement bubbling within me.
With a deep breath, I murmured, "Let's make it a day to remember." I glanced back at the baby monitor, feeling grateful for every moment I had with my precious girl.
As I was tidying up the living room, I heard the familiar sound of the front door creaking open. A smile spread across my face as I turned to see Niall walking in, his tired eyes lighting up when he spotted me. He quickly made his way over, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into a warm embrace.
"Hey, beautiful," he said, pressing a gentle kiss on my forehead. "Is our almost one-year-old still sleeping?"
I nodded, glancing toward the nursery. "Yeah, she's been out for a while now. I think she's dreaming about all the cake she's going to have tomorrow."
Niall chuckled, his laughter filling the room. "Good, she'll need her energy for all the celebrations. I can't believe she's turning one already. It feels like just yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital."
I smiled, feeling a wave of nostalgia. "I know! Time really flies. Are you excited for the party?"
"Of course! I can't wait to see all the family and friends come together. It's going to be amazing." He brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his expression softening. "And I can't wait to celebrate our little girl."
My heart swelled with love as I looked into his eyes. "Me too, Niall. She's going to have the best day ever."
Just then, we heard a soft cooing sound coming from the nursery, making us both turn our heads in unison. "Looks like our little party animal is waking up," Niall said with a grin.
"Shall we go get her?" I asked, already feeling the excitement building.
"Absolutely. Let's go make her first birthday unforgettable."
As we approached the nursery, I felt a rush of anticipation. I opened the door slowly, and the soft glow from the nightlight illuminated our daughter's crib. Sarah was sitting up, her tiny hands gripping the railing, and her big blue eyes sparkled as they met mine.
"Hey there, birthday girl!" I exclaimed, my heart melting at the sight of her messy hair and sleepy smile.
"Look who's awake!" Niall chimed in, leaning over the crib to greet her. "Did you have a good nap, sweetheart?"
Sarah let out a delighted squeal, bouncing in her crib with excitement. "Dada!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy.
Niall laughed, reaching down to scoop her up into his arms. "That's right! It's your big day tomorrow. Are you ready to celebrate?"
