Maya's Point of View
Tomorrow is a big day — my husband Liam's 27th birthday and our second-born son Justin's first birthday. It's hard to believe how quickly this past year has flown by. Right now, Justin is napping upstairs, and I'm sitting on the floor of the living room, surrounded by colorful building blocks, playing with our oldest son, Bear, who's three years old. Oh, and there's another little one on the way — I'm about six weeks pregnant with baby number three.
"Mommy, look! I built a tower!" Bear exclaims, his eyes bright with excitement as he stacks the final block on top.
"Oh wow, Bear! That's the tallest tower I've ever seen!" I smile, leaning in for a closer look. "You're getting so good at building."
He grins proudly. "When Justin wakes up, he can help too, right?"
I chuckle, imagining the chaos of Justin's little hands toppling Bear's masterpiece. "We'll see, honey. Sometimes baby brother likes to knock things over more than build them up."
Bear giggles, clapping his hands. "That's okay, Mommy. I can build it again!"
I glance at the clock, feeling a flutter of excitement. Liam's been away on tour, and tonight, he's finally coming home. He'll be back after the boys go to bed, so tomorrow morning will be a surprise for everyone.
As we stack a few more blocks, Bear looks up at me thoughtfully. "Mommy, do you think Daddy will like my tower?"
"Oh, he'll love it," I say softly, ruffling his hair. "And I think he's going to be so happy to see you and Justin tomorrow. It's been a long time, hasn't it?"
Bear nods. "Yeah, I miss him a lot."
I pull him close, feeling a little emotional. "Me too, sweetheart. But he'll be here soon. And we're going to make tomorrow really special, okay?"
"Okay!" he says, hugging me back tightly.
Bear eventually grows tired and curls up beside me, resting his head on my lap. I stroke his hair softly, savoring the rare quiet moment. It feels nice to just sit here, enjoying the peace before the whirlwind of tomorrow.
A little later, I hear Justin start to stir on the baby monitor, letting out soft babbling noises. Bear's head pops up immediately, eyes bright with excitement.
"Mummy, Justin's awake!" he whispers.
"Looks like it," I smile, slowly standing up with Bear's help. "Should we go get him?"
Bear nods, already halfway to the stairs. "Yes! I want to tell him about Daddy!"
We head upstairs together, and as soon as I open the door to Justin's room, he greets us with a big, toothy grin. His tiny arms reach out, and I scoop him up, feeling my heart swell at his giggles.
"Hi, baby boy!" I coo, kissing his cheek. "Did you have a good nap?"
Justin just babbles in response, his little hand grabbing a lock of my hair.
Bear looks at him, wide-eyed. "Justin, guess what? Daddy's coming home tonight!"
Justin's answer is to squeal and wiggle happily in my arms, which Bear takes as a sign that his little brother totally understands.
"See, Mummy? He's excited too!"
I laugh, hugging both of them close. "You're right, Bear. I think he's excited just like you."
