Narrator

Y/n was left with many things unsaid but their main point got across. Y/n really loved Danielle but above all else...

Y/n was grateful.

"Are you okay now?" Y/n softly caressed Danielle's cheek.

Dani felt a bit emotional because of everything that had been going on. Soon enough she'll have to go back to school and things would become uncertain again.

Danielle was just happy she got to hear Y/n's sincere love and gratitude for once.

It wasn't tainted with a forced demeanor or a cold tone that could be mistaken for insecurity...

It was Y/n's honest words...

From the heart.

- Danielle POV -

"I'm fine," I sniffled.

It was hard to recollect myself knowing that this feeling would be short-lived. Y/n didn't have to tell me how they felt...

But it made my heart race so much that I almost felt like I couldn't breathe.

"You should shower and get ready for bed. You worked hard today," I gently kissed Y/n's forehead.

It had been a really long day.

Oddly enough, it felt like a perfect day.

"Okay," Y/n pecked my lips before heading into their bedroom.

The days after that, I continued to help Jay with his project house while Y/n worked. I hung out with my friends and also had my sister help me shop for back-to-school items.

I didn't really get to see Y/n much but it was better that way.

For some reason, I felt very at peace after what Y/n said.

"Hey!" I happened to run into Y/n at crepe stop I had once seen them before.

"What you doing?" Y/n teased.

"I was actually gonna buy some crepes and bring them over," I confessed.

"How funny! I was doing the same thing," Y/n chuckled.

Something felt odd about our interaction to me. It almost felt like we weren't dating. It felt more like we were best friends.

"If it isn't my favorite freeloader!" The owner exclaimed when he saw Y/n walk in.

I glared at him from behind Y/n and was quick to come to their defense, "Don't lose a regular from such a silly remark".

"It's a joke!" The owner chuckled.

"The wifi is free and I didn't want the poor kid sitting out in the rain. I only got mad when Y/n took up space on our busy days," He tried to explain himself.

"Umm, can I order?" Y/n seemed annoyed.

"Your usual?" The owner asked.

Y/n nodded and then pulled me closer, asking... "What would you like?"

We got our orders and decided to head over to Y/n's place to eat.

Everything felt really odd to me.

I had felt so calm and relaxed for a few days, but suddenly I felt so anxious around Y/n.

"Danielle, do you know what real love is to you?" Y/n suddenly asked.

I furrowed my brows in confusion.

- Y/N POV -

"Danielle, do you know what real love is to you?" I nervously asked...

Clenched the small gift I had for her in my pocket.

I had finally gathered the courage to face her again.

After what I said a few days prior, it felt like Danielle was actively avoiding me. It almost felt like she had gotten the closure she needed and was okay with us drifting apart again.

I wanted to accept things as they were...

But it felt like I shouldn't just go with the flow for once.

It felt like I should actually try for once.

"Because I know what real love is to me and I want to know if we think about it the same way. I want us to learn what real love is together. For the rest of our lives," I explained.

"All of a sudden?" Dani awkwardly chuckled.

I clenched the gift in my hand tightly, hoping she wouldn't avoid the question.

Dani gave me an exhausted smile and just replied, "I need to start packing for school. Maybe we can talk about this when I've gotten over the stress of that?"

I nodded in agreement.

It seemed like Danielle didn't really understand what I was trying to say to her. A lot of other things seemed to be preoccupying her mind lately.

I really had no right to force anything on her. So, I let go of my gift and pulled my hand out my pocket, replying... "You're right. You've got a lot to do before going back to school".

"Great! Love you," She gave me a kiss before heading out to her car.

"Get home safely!" I yelled as she backed out of the driveway.

Dani waved back and I watched as she drove away...

Wondering...

"We didn't just get back together for closure, did we?"
