Rajat turned to her, his expression curious. "What, Savi?" he asked.
Savi took a deep breath, trying to think of a way to keep him close without being too obvious. "I was thinking... maybe we could grab some lunch together before you go to pick up Aashika?" she suggested, trying to sound casual.
Rajat's face softened, and he smiled. "That sounds great, Savi. I'd love to spend some time with you."
Savi's heart skipped a beat as she smiled back at him. Maybe, just maybe, she could keep him close for a little while longer.
As they drove to the restaurant, Savi's mind was racing with thoughts of Aashika's return. She couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had been growing inside her since the bail was granted.
Rajat, sensing her tension, reached out and took her hand in his. "Hey, everything will be okay," he said, trying to reassure her.
But Savi's anxiety only seemed to intensify. She pulled her hand away, her eyes fixed on Rajat's face. "Will you go to pick her up?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rajat's expression faltered, and he looked away, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. "I...I don't know," he said finally, his voice hesitant.
Savi's heart sank at his words. She felt a pang of fear, wondering if Rajat was still tied to Aashika in ways she couldn't understand.
Rajat's eyes locked onto Savi's, and he could see the deep sadness and vulnerability reflected in them. He felt a pang of regret, realizing that the mention of Aashika's name had hurt Savi.
He reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair behind Savi's ear. "Lucky will go," he said softly, his voice filled with reassurance. "I ain't going, Savi."
Savi's eyes searched his, as if seeking confirmation of his words. Rajat could see the faintest glimmer of hope in her eyes, and he knew he had to make her believe that he was committed to her.
He took her hand in his, his fingers intertwining with hers. "I'm here with you, Savi," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I'm not going anywhere."
..........
" Rajat. I have a wish!" Savi said after lunch is done.
Rajat's eyes never left Savi's face, his expression encouraging. "Of course, Savi. What is it?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle.
Savi's eyes dropped, her voice barely above a whisper. "Can we go somewhere else. I dont want to go home. " she asked.
Rajat's expression softened, and he smiled. "Okay, we don't have to go home today," he said, his voice gentle.
He leaned in, his face inches from Savi's. "We can go somewhere else, just the two of us. Where do you want to go?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with suggestion.
Savi's heart skipped a beat as she met Rajat's gaze. She felt a flutter in her chest, a sense of excitement and possibility. "Anywhere," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Rajat's eyes never left Savi's face, his expression serious. "But there's one complexity," he said, his voice low and cautious.
Savi's heart skipped a beat as she sensed a hint of hesitation in Rajat's tone. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rajat's expression turned thoughtful, and he nodded. "We need to pick up Kiaan and Sai," he said, his voice filled with a sense of responsibility.
Savi's heart swelled with emotion as she thought about the two children. She knew how much they meant to Rajat, and she was grateful that he was including her in this part of his life.
"Okay," she said softly, smiling up at Rajat. "Let's go pick up the kids. We will go some other day."
Savi felt a pang of selfishness, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that today, she needed Rajat all to herself. No kids, no family, no distractions. Just Rajat.
But she hesitated, unsure of how to express her desires without sounding like an incompetent or uncaring mother figure to Kiaan and Siya. What if Rajat thought she was putting her own needs above those of his children?
She bit her lip, torn between her desire for alone time with Rajat and her fear of being judged. Maybe she could just enjoy the quiet moments they had now, and not rock the boat. But as she looked into Rajat's eyes, she knew she wanted more.
Rajat's eyes lingered on Savi's face, sensing the hint of wistfulness in her voice. He could tell that she was trying to sound casual, but he knew her well enough to detect the underlying emotions.
"Yeah, someday soon," he said softly, trying to reassure her. He reached out, gently brushing his fingers against hers. The touch sent a spark of electricity through his body, and he felt a deep connection to her.
Savi's gaze remained fixed outside the window, her expression distant. Rajat could sense her withdrawing into herself, and he felt a pang of regret. He wished he could take away her worries and make everything okay.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked, his voice low with concern. He leaned in closer, his face inches from hers. He could see the faintest glimmer of tears in her eyes, and his heart went out to her.
Savi's eyes flickered back to his, a faint smile on her lips. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. But Rajat knew her well enough to sense the unspoken emotions beneath her words. He knew that she was struggling, that she needed reassurance and comfort.
Without thinking, Rajat reached out and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. Savi didn't resist, instead melting into his embrace. They sat there in silence, the only sound the hum of the engine and the beat of their hearts.
" Rajat, kids must be waiting for us!" She said.
Rajat's arms tightened around Savi for a moment before he released her, his eyes never leaving hers. "Yeah, you're right," he said softly, his voice filled with a mix of reluctance and responsibility.
Savi smiled weakly, trying to break the spell that had woven itself around them. "We should get going," she said, her voice a little stronger now.
Rajat nodded, starting the car and easing back into the flow of traffic. As they drove, Savi's thoughts turned to Sai and Kiaan, wondering what they had been up to and how their day had been.
The silence between them was no longer tense, but rather comfortable, a sense of understanding and connection lingering in the air. Rajat's hand found its way back to Savi's, their fingers intertwining in a gentle, reassuring touch.
