The sun filtered in through sheer curtains, casting sleepy golden streaks across the marble floor.
Savi walked into the sitting area, fingers busy scrolling through her notes, her voice calling softly—
Savi:
"Sai? Where did you keep your homework copy? You said it was here—"
Before she could finish, she paused.
Her eyes landed on someone she didn’t expect to find here, like this.
Aashika.
Sitting in the corner of the couch.
Back stiff, knees pulled slightly in, as if curling into herself.
Her eyes… red.
Glossy. Shiny. But unshed.
She wasn’t crying. Not fully.
But something about her posture — broken yet pretending not to be — made Savi’s steps slow.
Even when she didn’t like Aashika, this version of her didn’t feel like the enemy.
It felt… human.
Savi hesitated.
She could’ve just picked up the notebook and left.
But she didn’t.
Savi (quietly):
"Aashika… are you okay?"
Aashika looked up sharply, almost startled — like she wasn’t used to being asked that.
Her lips parted… then pressed back.
But after a few seconds, her voice cracked through the air, a soft, defeated mumble—
Aashika (barely audible):
"Next week… it’s my hearing."
She laughed, but the sound was dry, bitter.
Aashika:
"I don’t know if I’ll be jailed or not. Honestly? I’ve stopped thinking beyond that date."
There was a pause.
Then something shifted in her voice — like a whisper meant only for herself, but Savi caught it anyway.
Aashika:
"Savi… I know you love my children."
Savi stilled.
Aashika didn’t look at her now — her gaze was fixed on the carpet.
Aashika (soft, raw):
"If I have to go…
Please take care of my child. Of Kiaan."
Just then, Sai appeared behind them — hopping in with a banana in one hand and a mischievous grin.
Sai:
"I don’t want to do homework today, Mumma! Papa told Sunday is off day!"
Before Savi could reply, Sai darted away, disappearing upstairs like a storm cloud wrapped in giggles.
A smile tugged at Savi's lips. Then it faded.
She looked back at Aashika.
And for a moment —
the night of her wedding flashed in her mind.
Rajat’s words.
The heaviness in his voice.
The truth he had trusted her with.
Rajat took a deep breath, his eyes clouding over as he relived the memories. "When I reached, I saw Kiaan brutally stabbing Arsh. Arsh was torturing Aashika...I guess he had been torturing her for months. My little son couldn't see his mumma in pain, and he...he killed him."
Savi's face didn't flinch, but Rajat could sense a flicker of emotion in her eyes. "But Aashika took the blame," he continued. "So I brought Kiaan here. He's my son too."
And then she remembered the promise Rajat asked from Savi, and she will not going to tell anyine but Aashika, Aashika is Kiaan mother , she could atleast consol her.
