Chapter 152: duck, duck, GOOSE (World Heroes' Mission AU)

I squint at the boy, something about his expression was interesting.

"They said that if I did, they would stop just the Otheon explosion," he explained, walking towards Flect Turn, key in hand.

Despite Deku's protests, Rody continued towards the Humarise leader.

"I'm a delinquent," he laughed humourlessly, "I can't protect everything, take on everything a hero like you can. I have to choose between the world and my family."

As much as my gut was telling me something was up, I wasn't exactly about to just wait and see.

Instead, I silently creep over to Deku who had fallen silent, just looking ahead in despair.

I pulled off my costume's jacket, stuffing it into Deku's mouth and he looked up at me confused.

"Bite down on this, don't make a sound," I whisper before placing my hands over the largest wound in his side.

He catches on at the last minute as I begin using my quirk to close his injury.

He twitches and kicks against the floor, but true to my instructions, not a sound is made.

I have to concentrate to pour the right amount of energy into the process so as to not singe his already damaged tissue, but I catch snippets of Rody and Flect's conversation.

"Yes, your father, Eddie Soul," the familiar name pricks my ears.

'His dad? That kidnapped scientist! So that's why he was making that face...'

I pull my hand away once the work is done, moving onto the next injury in his thigh.

'If that's the case... there's no way Rody would betray Deku!'

Just before Rody hands the key over, Midoriya lets out the only noise he's made since I'd told him not to.

He had noticed something and, sure enough, looking over, I see Rody's pet bird sticking out from his hood. It looked almost animated, frantically shaking its head and waving its wings in an X shape.

Seeing this, Midoriya seems to relax instantly.

'Guess my gut was right.'

I slowly got back to my feet after patching most of Midoriya's wounds.

Just as Rody was about to hand over the key, he twirls it in his hand and flicks it into the air.

Catching the signal, Deku springs back to life, swinging a punch at the villain just as Rody runs out of the way with the key firmly clutched in the beak of his bird.

"All according to plan!" he cheers.

I run after him, trying not to feel too bad as Deku is sent flying back into some bookshelves,

"You fool!" Flect Turn screams as the lasers burst forth once more.

I dashed forwards to cover him.

Thankfully, Rody had some skills of his own, bobbing and weaving around the lasers.

But then, one of Deku's attacks was used against us, blasting us into the air.

And in that split second, a laser dug through Rody's stomach.

"RODY!" Midoriya yelled, charging at the villain once more.

I hiss and run over to the boy, now collapsed on the floor.

I grab at him and hoist him up, thankfully he's able to stand.
