Raijinn Forsythe, Mind Magic

A/N: Hello, Ever-readers! You all know that every villain has a story, right? The Forsythes are not an exemption. Personally, I think the Forsythes’ origins are interesting. You’ll understand their motives more so I dedicated short origin chapters from them. These are all connected to the story and will probably answer some of the questions in your mind.

Fun fact: Her name “Jinn” is derived in Arab and Muslim traditional stories, a magical spirit who may appear in the form of a human or an animal (shapeshifters) and can take control of a person. They are neither innately good or evil.

JINN’s POV

MY FAMILY possessed a unique, powerful—yet dangerous magic. We have the power to control and manipulate anyone that has a mind at will. Everyone who knew of our existence feared us—afraid that we would use them for such evil wrongdoings. For them… we were monsters. Devils.

We lived on the outskirts of a small village in the Forsaken Realm three-hundred years ago. We tried to live our lives peacefully, out of scrutiny. We tried our best not to use our magic. We even decided not to get our grimoires. But our natural magic was so great, that even without using spells, we could still get inside another’s mind—enter their memories, hear their thoughts—alter their mind completely.

I did not understand, however, why we had to live in isolation. It wasn’t our fault that we were born this way! Whatever place my family came from—it did not matter. We were also human beings, people with good intentions! And even though we possess this frightening magic, we never used it to benefit ourselves. If we did, we might be sitting on the thrones of the Clover Kingdom—with everyone kneeling down before us. We would rule over everyone. We would dominate them effortlessly.

We never did.

But that seemed to be what went in other people’s minds.

That was why they treated us like villains.

“Jinn! Jinn! The house is burning!”

I was just in my early years in adulthood, silently reading by my bed when my mother came rushing to me, wearing a desperate, terrified look on her face.

“What is happening, mother?” I asked, bewildered.

“The nobles,” she said. “The nobles are here and they brought the Knights to capture us. I do not know what they would do to us, but we must escape! They brought torches and they are bringing our house down!”

“Forsythes!” A voice called from outside. “Devils shall perish! You are an abomination to the kingdom! You have violated the laws by committing unforgivable crimes against the nobility—treasures stolen, lives murdered!”

“But we did not do anything wrong!” I told my mother in frustration. “They are wrong!”

“Hush, child, they will hear us!”

“Someone is in this room!” More voices appeared down the hall, footsteps closing in outside her room.

“Run, Jinn! You must escape!” My mother said; and those were the last words that I heard from her. With a heavy heart, I ran and hid in the underground passage that we built in case of emergencies. I could hear the screams and shouts of my family getting dragged outside of the house as it burned to ashes.
