“SHOULD WE GET MARRIED?” William suddenly asked as he finished signing the rest of his paperworks for the day.
Solene stopped taking off her squad robe, slowly turning to him with wide eyes. “I’m sorry—did I just hear you correctly? You’re talking about marriage?”
He met her gaze, firmly nodding. “Yes.”
She swallowed. William was being serious about this matter, she knew it perfectly. But marriage was something that hadn’t crossed her mind at all—at least not to this point in time. She always thought that marrying him and building a family was a distant dream.
“I don’t know, Will,” she said eventually. “I think we’re going too fast, perhaps? It hasn’t been a year since we got together and… I’m not sure I’m ready to become your wife or build a family with you.”
“I know you would say that,” he said as he arranged the papers, standing up as he walked towards her. “You ought to know that I am not—in any way—putting pressure on you, Sol. The right time will come for us two when the church bells ring at our wedding. Of course, you’ll always have the final say. Perhaps I just want to say it. Well…” Now he was getting embarrassed that he even opened the topic at her. “But can you not imagine it? You would be someday called Mrs. Vangeance.”
Her cheeks reddened as the room heated up. “Oh, stop it, Will.”
He laughed. “Secretly like it, huh?” He intertwined their fingers together, pressing his forehead against hers. She could feel his breath against her skin. There was a moment of silence before William spoke again. “Someday we will wed, and I will finally call you my wife, and you will call me your husband.”
Solene exhaled as the atmosphere turned warm. “Someday.”
