Mako's apartment - 4:15 am

You were shivering. Somehow far across the bed, away from Mako's warmth, where he snored quietly. Any other night, he would've been up watching you, but the drinks in his system made him sleep deeper this time, his arm outstretched to the middle of the bed where you should've been, but you always moved a lot more when you were dreaming:

"Don't do this Shah," you pleaded, your once peaceful dream dragging you into a relentless nightmare, "I...I love him,"

You knew Shah didn't care. The sinister smile strung across his lips put enough weight in your lungs to silence you, but you begged anyway,

"Do it Shah!" Viper ordered, sliding his gun across the dark, wet ground, "After we get rid of him, the Triple Threats will be ours. Both of ours,"
"Mako, wake up! Please wake up, baby. We have to get out of here," you cried, trying to rush toward him, but you were cuffed to the wall. The second you tried to run for him, you were yanked back with enough force to knock the wind out of you, "S-Shah, please–

Mako was unconscious, tied to a chair, and covered in his own blood. He was injured enough as is, and you just knew Shah was planning to deliver the final blow,

"A cop baby sister?" Shah chuckled slyly, pressing the cool barrel to Mako's forehead, "You love this!?" Shah barked, louder this time, like he couldn't believe it, "After everything we've built!? You love...him!?" his finger twitching against the trigger,
"More than I love you," you answered weakly,
"Yeah!? Well, let's see how much you love your... precious Mako here, when he's being feasted on by maggots!"

"Shah no! Mako!" you shouted out loud, gasping for breath, the exact moment Mako shot awake and pulled you into his arms,
"Hey, hey," he whispered, a tad panicked by your trembling, "Look at me, look at me, it was just a dream. You're okay. You're safe," he reassured you,
"M-Mako," you whispered back, still shaking, still petrified,
"Shhh. I've got you," Mako murmured, brushing your hair off your damp forehead, "It's not real. He's not here," he repeated, over and over, the tighter you gripped his shirt,
"He...he had a gun to your head."

Mako stiffened. Only a little. But you felt it.

"I'm fine. See?" he said with a slight smile, "You're fine. Nobody's getting to us here," he reminded you, kissing your temple sweetly, then your cheek, then the corner of your mouth—until you snatched him in for a deeper kiss. Mako didn't break it. Not even for a second, when he felt a hard tug at his shoulders and the neediness of your pitched moans pulling him on top of you,
"I thought I lost you," you confessed softly,

Mako didn't answer—not with words.

His mouth was already moving down your neck, warm and open, his breath skipping over your skin as he kissed you like you were fragile, like you might break apart if he didn't touch every inch of you slowly first,

"I know the feeling," he said without emotion, only duty, "Which is why I'm not going anywhere,"
"But my dream–
"You're stressed," Mako cut in softly, pressing his hips between your thighs, "I'm sorry I forgot,"
"Mmph. Viper told him to–
"He's told me to do the same," Mako said coldly, his hand wrapped around your throat while you shuddered against his hardness. Your body was begging, twitching for him, and yet Mako took his time, forcing you to calm your breathing until you met his stone-faced gaze,
"I was cuffed. Ahh. I-I couldn't even get to you," you rambled on until you felt his fingers reach into your panties,
"Breathe, breathe," Mako nodded, loosening his grip on your throat just to prepare you for more. He moved deeper, slow, deliberate, like he was learning every part of you all over again. You moaned through your teeth, arching into him, but he only tightened his grip on your throat to keep you at his pace,

"That'll never happen," he whispered, his voice shaking now too, savoring every second your moans hitched in his palm. "I've got you. I promise,"
"Don't leave. Ever," you whimpered, "Don't you dare even hold back right now,"
