Chapter 76: Split The Difference

 [Kuvira's Airship]

"Any luck?" she asked, circling the large map on the steel table the second Ivin walked in,
"Two addresses," Ivin grinned, handing over the notecard Ava had filled in for him, "One is a few miles away. The other is across town,"
"Should we split the difference?"
"I wouldn't. We have time to check both," Ivin nodded, "Shall I call a cab?"
"Immediately,"

[Air Temple Island]

You had heard about the little island across the bay filled with airbenders the very week Shah moved you to the city. A family cut off from everything and everybody just to live in peace. A word you've only heard Viper mention over and over again, once the Triple Threats were finally free of judgment and scrutiny, he'd say. But it had been six years and you still never knew the true definition of it, nevertheless the feeling, 

"Wow, it's so...quiet here," you noted, following Tenzin toward the towering temple a few yards ahead,
"Entirely intentional," Tenzin nodded, "Airbenders require stillness to maintain balance and execute proper meditation,"
"Hmph. Stillness, and yet you chose the most chaotic city to date,"
"Definitely wasn't my first choice, but we airbenders have been severed from society for far too many generations," Tenzin explained, "It was more than time for my father's people to rejoin the other elements,"
"That's still the thing I don't get. Shah doesn't have...elements," you pointed out, "Him flying? How's that even possible?"
"Hmph. That's what we're here to find out,"

Leaving Dinahdu

"Where the hell are you taking us?" Shah hissed, gripping his left arm tight to dull the pain,
"Oh, I don't know," one of Viper's drivers chuckled, "Underground. Nice cozy brick wall. Chain your wrist to it. You know Viper,"
"Yeah and he's looking for me," Shah panted, "I'm back now, take them to the fucking hospital,"
"No can do. Wasn't the Boss's orders,"



[Republic City] — 25th & Main

"You look nervous," Ivin smirked lightly, following Kuvira up the stairs of Mako's apartment building,
"Yeah, well I have about three reasons to be," Kuvira breathed, shoving her worries as far down as she could,
"I think it's interesting he makes you nervous,"
"So not the time to start psychoanalyzing me, Ivin,"
"On the contrary, Captain. It is well within my duties to do so," Ivin bowed, "We are at your command, and as a unit we must anticipate your direction, just as precisely as we follow your directives,"
"Fine, you want to know every thought in my head? It's quiet. Too damn quiet," Kuvira breathed as they marched toward Mako's front door and knocked swiftly, "Shah is...the loudest person I know. I should've heard him from downstairs,"
"If that's the case," Ivin nodded, pulling a dark colored stone from his left pocket,
"What are you doing?"
"Investigating," Ivin grinned, bending the stone into a small key,
"You have meteorite?" Kuvira questioned, watching Ivin bend the stone into the lock itself until the door clicked open,
"I have a—substantial collection," Ivin admitted, "And...six telescopes,"
"You hunt meteorite?"
"When the stars align," Ivin chuckled, stepping into the living room only to find a puddle of blood soaked into the carpet, and neither Shah nor Mako in sight,
"God," Kuvira gasped,
"Settle your fear. That could belong to anybody,"
"But—
"Neither of us have the full story," Ivin reminded her, backing Kuvira into the hallway, "Nor do we know if your nonbender ever stepped foot in here. Five minutes,"

[Dinahdu] — Town Hall Monastery

"Boss, I'm never one to question stops but, what the hell do you expect to find here?"
"You know me Shin," Viper smirked before slipping out of the car, "A rhyme, a reason, a relative,"

[Republic City] — 25th & Main

"Well?" Kuvira asked, chewing on her thumb nail to calm her nerves,
"Bullet casing, empty drawers, half eaten breakfast bagel," Ivin nodded after locking the door behind him, "I don't think he was here," he reassured Kuvira, placing his hands on both her shoulders, "But whoever was? Scared your detective into leaving. My best guess is to his second address,"
"Ugh. Let's go,"
