Nothing screams Joy better than the smell of freshly toasted breads and stir fried pasta with meat balls.

Let's not forget the smell of roasted chicken in the oven anticipating to be put side by side with some mashed potatoes.

The entire house is giving a glorious scent as Lady Audrey and I are making magic in the kitchen—this lady is a born chef.

"Courtney, sweetie, get me the first two spices on the shelf"

"Yes, Ma'am" I place the knife and carrots down as I rush towards the shelf.

Did I also mention we're making white rice and chicken gravy?

I had her the spices before heading back to check on the pasta.

"You and Eric still haven't decided on a wedding date?"

I pour the pasta into the stir fry before turning back to her "not yet. We both have heavy contracts on our necks right now"

She groan, turning around to look at me "that's what happens when a workaholic marries a workaholic" she turns back around "it's just because I'm trying to respect you guys, any further delay and you'll see me in action"

A chuckle escapes my lips as I turn back to the pasta "yes, Ma'am"

"Mum, we're here" We hear Mr Martinez's voice from the living room before he walks into the kitchen.

"Hello, Mum" he walks up to her with a smile, placing a kiss on her cheek "This house smells glorious"

Told you.

"Just wait till you get a taste" she smiles

"I can see you making magic, Courtney"

I let out a chuckle, my attention still on the food I'm making "like she said, Sir.... just wait till you get a taste"

"My stomach's already rumbling. I'll wait for you guys in the living room"

"Did Barbara come with you?" Lady Audrey asks

"Yes, she's in the living room"

"Doing what? Tell her to get in here" she instructs

"Yes, Ma'am" with that, he heads out.

I turn the burner off "the pasta's ready"

"You can take them to the dinning. Where in God's name are these girls? They should be getting the table set"

I take out the serving pots "You did tell them you wanted us to handle the cooking"

"Not the setting up...jeezz"

I chuckle "I'll get them done"

As I begin to take out the dishes, I hear a slight giggling come from the hallway.

"Natalie?" I whisper to myself before Eric steps into the kitchen with my mini me resting against his shoulder.

"What's going on here? The house literally smells like magic"

A chuckle escapes Lady Audrey's lips "wait till you taste it, sweetie. How's my great grandbaby doing"

She places her utensils down, walking towards Eric as she takes Natalie from him.

He walks up to me, planting a kiss on my lips

"Hello, Wifey"

A grin forms on my face as I casually bite my lower lip "Hello, Hubby"

I could literally see his face turn red as he let out a chuckle.

Just then, Barbara walks into the kitchen, taking slow steps as she stops not to far from the door.

"Hello, Mum....Austin said you need me" she says, her voice calmer than usual.

"Yes, come help us in here" she then turns to Eric "go keep your father busy before we're done"

"Sure thing, Ma'am" he walks away, stopping hesitantly beside his mum "Hi, Mum"

She gives a smile I could definitely tell had a lot of sadness and a bit of force behind it.

"Hi, Son"

He gives a small nod before heading out, leaving the three of us and Natalie.

"Hi, Mrs Martinez"

Oh c'mon, I have to acknowledge here.

She gives me a slight smile before asking "What....do you guys need help with?"

"For now, you could just hold on to Natalie"

I immediately almost protest, but the words didn't seem to leave my mouth.

I turn my gaze to Lady Audrey as she tries to hand over Natalie to Barbara, but she's hesitant to hold her, and that's because I've never given a consent.

In as much as I feel afraid and wary about her holding my baby, she's her grandmother.

Barbara turns her gaze to me, literally questioning me with her eyes. I just take in a deep breath and give a slight nod before she finally picks Natalie up.

"I'll go check on the boys" Lady Audrey walks out the kitchen.

Really?

I lower my gaze, casually sliding my hands behind my back pocket as I leaned backwards on the kitchen counter....

Of course I'm wearing jeans, I'm still Courtney Jones.

"Courtney" Barbara gently calls out my name, causing me to lift my gaze and turn my attention to her.

"I know that things between us can't be tight, it might never even be good....but for the sake of my son and my granddaughter, I'm begging you to forgive me"

I push myself up, standing straight with my hands still in my back pocket

"I don't hold anything against you, Barbara and I really do want your relationship with Eric to work.....and for him, a relationship with his daughter. As for us, I'll try my absolute best to make it work, but we need serious time"

She nods gently with a small smile "anything works for me"

I give a reassuring smile before picking up the serving plates "please, excuse me".

Although I hold nothing against her anymore, and that being because of Eric, Natalie and my mental health, I can't see myself quickly jumping into a relationship with her.

Sure, I'll make things with her son work out with her and I'll even compromise for her granddaughter, but we both need time to heal from the pain the feud brought before diving into any relationship.

If I'm being honest, that's the best thing for all of us.
