"How about this, Miss Jones?"

I stand to my feet, observing the dress in front of me. It's pretty, yes, but it's too much....and to worsen it, it's green.

"I'm sorry, please, can I get something else?"

"Of course, Ma'am. We'll be right back"

I take my seat, again. I turn my attention from my phone to the workaholic who's been on a call for more than 15mins.

"You know what, I'll stop by at the hotel later, I'll discuss with the general manager" and with that, he finally ends the call.

"You need a serious break" I voice out "The company, Crystals, the Hospital's funding....you need a real break"

A small grin forms on his face before he drops his phone and turns to me "A Vacation would be nice....but that means you're taking a break too, deal?"

I fold my lips in. I've never been one to really do breaks on purpose, how would that even work?

He nods slightly at my silence "I thought as much. Although, you'll still take that break eventually" he adds

"I don't need a break, Eric, you do"

He places a kiss on my cheek "what I need, Is you, not a break. I'm not stressed when you're with me....but, I'll be stressed if you're stressed."

"I'm not.... I'm not really stressed" Right?

He nods, tucking my hair behind my ear "you'll never admit to it, even if you are. Just leave it to me, okay, My Love?"

A grin forms on my lips "there's no convincing you, is there?"

He shakes his head "never" he places a kiss on my lips

"Eric, we're in public" I whisper, trying to move away

"So what? There's literally nobody here" he kisses me again

"Uhm....Miss Jones"

I immediately break the kiss, turning to the ladies that walked in

"Oh, sorry....can I....see the outfits?"

I feel so flustered and Eric started chuckling when he noticed.

Psychopath.

"Of course, Miss." I noticed the smiles on the ladies faces and that made me even more uncomfortable.

They started bringing out the outfits one by one when I notice Eric let out a sigh beside me.

"I have to go, My Mum wants to see me"

"Is everything alright?" I place a hand on his shoulder, he seems restless.

He tries to give a smile, to reassure me "of course it is." He takes out his wallet and brings out his card "for your outfit"

Oh hell no

"Eric, you know I'm not taking that"

He places it on my lap "Courtney, Just this once" he gets up to leave

"No, Eric, I'm not... there's no need"

"You won't be saying that if I had gotten the dress for you myself. Just hold on to it then, might come in handy" he kisses my forehead before leaving.

I sit dumbfounded, staring at the card like it's a strange thing.

How do I spend money that's not mine?

Eric's POV•

"Welcome, Mr Martinez. Your mother is in the living room"

I nod "thank you, grace" I walk towards the living room, stopping at the entrance to see My Mum flipping through channels as she sips on her glass of wine"

"Hi, Mum. You asked to see me" I walk towards her "What's so urgent?"

She turns to me, a clearly fake smile displayed on her face "won't you like to sit?"

I take a seat beside her, keeping a bit of distance of course.

"Jane contacted me" she goes straight to the point "what happened?"

"She was stepping out of boundaries"

She places her cup down "boundaries? Are there boundaries in a relationship?"

"I was never in a relationship with Jane" I point out harshly "She never gave space for that to happen. I've never been one to work well under pressure"

"And Theresa?" She suddenly asks "at least you've known her for years"

"Wait, did you call me here to waste my time?"

"Eric, don't think I don't know you're back with that gutter street wrench. Are you seriously enjoying our feud?"

"I should be asking you that. What exactly is wrong with you?" Why does she always lose her cool when it comes to Courtne?

"Eric, you cannot be with someone like that. Can't you understand I'm doing this for your own good?"

"Don't even do that" I cut in sharply "you're doing it for your selfish interest. You don't want the Martinez fortune to spread beyond our initial social class, that's why you're forcing me to every heiress you lay your eyes on"

She looks me dead in the eyes, her face emotionless and her eyes void.

"It took me nothing to end this joke of a relationship the last time, you know that, right?"

And these are times I question if this woman is actually my mother.

I shake my head slightly, letting out a little chuckle.

"I think I've been the problem actually, I've been the one making a mistake. I keep delaying on the things I want to do and should do because I was hoping you'd act like a mother eventually.....what a pity though."

I stand to my feet "see you at Daniel's party, Mum."
