Oh, It's Already Thursday

Claude hadn’t backed down from his date with Selene to go to the dance, but he did minimize the “affection” he and Selene showed each other when Nick was around. I still wondered why he couldn't do something nice for someone, but quickly I answered that: He was a vampire, what else could I expect? Even worse, he was the Prince of Darkness. Along with that title came a few words: cocky, man-whore, powerful, rich, smug, asshole, and the list goes on. But, I was thankful and a bit surprised that he had minimized the affection they showed towards each other.

At least he is capable of kindness, I thought with a smile.

‘He is capable of a lot of things,’ something in the back of my mind whispered.

Okay, Viola, you are hearing voices now. Yes, you are fully crazy. You are going to go to a dance tomorrow dressed as a vampire to steal away your friend’s mate from an actual vampire that you dislike. Crazy. Everything is crazy in this town.

You need to get more sleep, I muttered to myself in my head.

I would manage to only get a few hours of sleep, between four to one hours to be exact. I haven’t a clue why, but ever since I arrived in this town my nights became restless. I would spend the nights tossing and turning until I fell into a nice sleep that would be interrupted by my alarm clock for school. I was thankful that it didn’t show on my face, and I was actually beginning to get used to it.
Lilith told me it was from all the sexual tension between Claude and I. When she said this out loud, I nearly screamed. I was not sexually attracted to Claude! That is just - just plain WRONG.

Obviously Lilith couldn't know this, but nonetheless she knew my dislike towards him and yet she manages to come up with things like this. It would amuse her how riled up I got over her little remarks about Claude, which is why she would practically always mention it. I adored Lilith, but I hated her for that.

Matthew had told me it was from all the stress from all the things that had happened. This I believed, unlike Lilith’s “witty” answer. He told me that everything would be fine, I just had to let loose and that the dance would be a good thing for it. The dance would be a nice, fun night with all my friends and letting loose sounded like a wonderful idea.

I hadn’t told the pack of my, erm, costume. Remember? The vampire costume I planned to wear? Yeah, that one. I didn’t exactly know how they would take it, so I decided it would be a surprise. It was Halloween after all, they couldn't get irritated over it!

I sat in my seat in sixth period as I waited for Claude to come in. He hadn’t been in his seat when I first arrived and now the bell was about to ring. Oh, did I mention it’s Thursday today? The day we turn in our projects?

He better not be late, I muttered.

As the bell rang, a flustered Lilith ran in. Relief flooded over her as she strolled to her seat. “I made it on time, oh yeah!” she smiled.

“Claude obviously hasn’t,” I muttered glancing at his empty seat and back to the door.

“Oh, looking around for your secret lover, eh?” she teased as my face tinted to a pink color.

“And you're blushing! How cute!” she fake gushed as I scowled at her.

“Today is Thursday, Lilith,” I stated, “Or did you forget?”

“Forget what?” she pondered.

“...Our projects are due today,” I said with a small chuckle as her face held a horrified expression.

“Crap!” she whined, “I left it at home.”

I shrugged, “That’s what you get for teasing me about my nonexisting relationship with Claude.”

She frowned in return, “I will get you back.”

“I’m looking forward to it,” I smiled as I patted her head. We both erupted into laughter and the teacher called our attention to the front of the class.

“As you all know, today your projects are due,” she spoke loudly, “But before you turn them in, some of you will present them!”

A frown formed on my face as I turned again to Claude’s empty seat and scowled. Stupid vampire is going to make me get a bad grade, I muttered.

“Now, who would like to go first?” she smiled. No one raised their hand and her smile dropped. She scanned the classroom for her victims and landed on me.

No, no, no, I screamed in my head.

“Viola Diamond,” she smiled, “You and your partner will present first!”

I stared at her with a blank face as Lilith giggled behind me. “Shush Lilith!” I whispered to her.

“What was that?” the teacher questioned.

“Erm, my partner is-” I began to say before Claude’s smell filled my nose and the door smacked open.

“Right here,” he perfectly smiled.

“About time,” I muttered under my breath. Shows up late and nearly gives me a heart attack, I added in my head.

I walked to the front of the room with my paper in my hand as Claude took out his. The teacher gestured for us to stand inf front of the classroom. Girls’ eyes fluttered at Claude which made me scowl. I nudged him once we were standing side by side.

“What took you so long,” I muttered under my breath so only he could hear, “I was about to do this all by myself.”

“Afraid of public speaking?” he teased.

“You may now begin!” the teacher stated, “Viola, you first, tell the class some things you learned about Claude.”

I took a deep breath in as Claude’s eyes were on me, “Claude’s parents are Rosemarie and Alexandre Blackmore. The surname Blackmore dates far back as the 13th century. The name originated from Essex, England where his parents live.”

My eyes met Claude’s quickly and they held an emotion I have never seen before.

“You’re so interesting, Claude,” a girl purred.

A low growl escaped my lips and this surprised me. Quickly I broke eye contact with Claude and looked to the teacher.

“Go on Claude,” she smiled, “Your turn.”

I was hesitant to look at him again but when I did I found that he was avoiding eye contact with me. He started, “Viola’s parents are Celeste and Ven Diamond. The surname Diamond dates back father than the 17th century. The name is a descendant of Daymond which means day or protection.”

“Okay, you may sit down,” she told us.

I looked up shortly at Claude with curiosity. He blue eyes met mine and we both looked away, I didn’t know why I did though. The class was silent as we walked back to our seats. My heart was thumping in my chest so loudly I thought surely they could hear it. What had just happened right then?

I sat in my seat and caught a glance at Claude who was looking my way. I could see Lilith peering at me from the corner of my eye.

“Don’t even think of it,” I teased her slightly but it was more of a warning.

She shrugged her shoulders but continued, “Maybe that relationship isn’t so nonexistent.”

Claude’s eyes snapped up at me, but they didn’t hold a happy look.

This was good, this meant he disliked me just as I disliked him.

But why did it make my stomach churn?
