The Rising Sun.
The words rang in my head, as if I was trapped in an empty room with that inevitable echo bouncing off the walls. 'I killed your lover.'
I questioned the words that spilled out of his mouth. Lover? I had a lover?
In between my rage and taste for blood, I had forgotten everything - not really forgotten, but it's as if I had pushed it aside to let the monster in me take control. Claude hadn't even occurred to me since I had risen from the dead, or whatever the fancy term would be for coming back to life. All I knew is that the man laying broken under my gaze was the most important thing in the world to me at that very moment. And I was going to nail his eyes shut for forcing me to live in the shadows.
The laugh that rose up in my throat was anything but human. "Nothing you say will change the fact that I'm going to rip your heart from your chest," My voice dropped to a whisper among the growls of warriors in the distance, "And hopefully you'll live long enough to see it with your own eyes."
The satisfied grin Emerson held before had fallen off his face, clearly unhappy with how well I had taken the news, but he recovered quickly. "Take your best shot, girl," he hissed, "then you'll be just as bad as I am."
I crouched down, nearing his moonlit face. "What makes you think I even care?"
There was a notable scare in his eyes, though the rest of his face seemed irritated. I could see his body trying to heal itself in its contorted form. Even then, if it did heal, the bones would lay broken with stretched skin attempting to function his human body. And it would only give me time to do it over and over and over and over again.
A glow fell to his eyes as a smirk spread on his lips. He spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, "But what would Ven and Celeste say, dear little Viola?"
The words felt like venom in his mouth and sounded wrong. I swallowed hard, something new in me bubbling. How dare you say their names, I screamed in my head, clenching my teeth together.
I felt a grind of my teeth as I stood there looking down at him. Then there was a crack ringing softly from inside of me. The pain that followed was nothing, but I still felt that twinge of a different pain. Emerson looked just as puzzled as I did, for a second anyway.
"Losing your grip there?" He snickered, and then muttered something under his breath.
A slow flow of blood was trickling down my nose. I didn't even bother to wipe it as I grabbed Emerson by his face and growled, "No."
His eyes just looked at my mouth with a sort of awe and curiosity.
I took the moment to lace my fingers on his right arm and rip in from him. "But you're definitely losing your arm."
He held in his pain as blood splattered on my face. It would take hours for blood loss to even affect him, seeing as his body rushed to replaced all that he lost. I almost scoffed as I threw his arm to the floor, looking upon this broken and disheveled man.
"You're a bitch!" He yelled in a pathetic last attempt to rile me up. It faintly reminded me of a school boy yelling when he didn't get what he wanted.
I still wasn't satisfied though. Not with how low Emerson had gotten, that he was literally at my feet. Not with the fact that I had inflicted so much pain on him. Not that he had lost so much - bones and limbs included - at the hands of me.
There was this aching pit in my body that even my rage could not fill, and I couldn't even grasp what it was.
I had barely begun to realize that my mouth held sharpened canines, making my tongue bleed as I ran it over my lips. A rush of panic hit me.I got down on my knees in a rush as I grabbed Emerson to yell, "What is happening to me?!"
