The Morning After
In the morning, I dreaded getting up. I was a bit sore, but it was nothing major. I could have stayed home, but then the pack would probably come around to make sure I was okay. Not to mention, I had to explain my little disappearing act to Lilith who was worried.
On my way to school, Sanders had called twice. He didn’t understand that I needed some time to heal from the hurt his words gave me. He’s just as persistent and stubborn as I am, when it comes to something he thinks is important.
Now, I walked to Lilith’s locker as I did every morning before school started. My eye caught a figure strutting towards me with a worried look etched on her face.
“Viola,” Selene spoke with urgency.
“Yes, Selene?” I muttered.
“About the kiss-” she began to say but I cut her off.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell Nick. He’s been hurt enough by you,” I spoke with no emotion.
She frowned a bit, “Well, yes that and I want to let you know that,” she stopped and looked to the ground a bit embarrassed.
I raised an eyebrow at her as she looked back up and blurted out, “It wasn't Claude’s fault.”
“What?” I questioned.
“I didn’t know you two had a thing for each other,” she spoke fast, “I kissed him as a goodbye kiss. I was telling him that everything was over because I was going to be with Nick. He didn't even know I was going to do!”
I was a bit surprised at her outburst.
“Please, don't hate me,” she frowned, “And don’t hate Claude. He’s a real nice guy.”
“He’s a nice guy?” I questioned not understanding why she was telling me this.
She played with her fingers anxiously, “He’s not that bad. Everyone thinks he’s worse than he actually is.”
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked.
“Nick told me how you helped us get together,” she shrugged, “Well, how you helped me realize that I should be with Nick instead of Claude.”
“Uh-huh,” I stated.
She looked down at the ground and then looked up to meet my eyes again, “What I’m trying to say is I’m sorry. There, I’m sorry.”
“Okay?” I said a bit confused.
“Now, you can actually be with Claude and stuff,” she smiled.
“Whoa, Claude and I aren't getting together,” I spoke with widen eyes, “You have it all wrong.”
“But the kiss you talk about-” she began to say before I cut her off, again.
“You can’t tell anyone about that,” I warned, “It never happened and Claude and I aren’t getting together.”
“Okay, sheesh,” she put up her hands as if she were surrendering.
“Seriously,” I stated in a stern voice.
“You have my word!” she chirped.
I started walking away, leaving Selene behind who had an accomplished smile on her face. “That better count for something,” I muttered to myself.
No one can know about Claude and I, I continued in my head, there’s not even a Claude and I to begin with. We kissed, that’s it. Okay, we kissed twice, but that's it.
