Plans
“An attack?” I said a bit angry, but more worried, “Are you guys okay? Is Sanders okay-”
“We’re fine dear,” Meredith spoke softly.
“Who - who was it then?” I asked not wanting to hear the answer.
“The Bennetts, dear,” she took a deep breath in.
“Our vampire spy that we sent to the Chamberlain Clan,” she continued, “He warned us too late. We tried, we rushed over there, but it was too late. They - they killed them all. All of them, Viola. The whole pack. They are all gone.”
I could hear her sobs and I became speechless. I kept the phone to my ear as everything became surreal. Just moments ago I had been having a normal, nice Sunday and now reality had com crashing down on me. The Chamberlain Clan was back and they wanted me. An entire pack and town of innocent people had already been killed, and now people I had grown up with had been murdered just because they wanted to get me.
“There’s something else,” she spoke with a bit of urgency, “I don’t know if you want to know this, but you need to. I want you to be safe, Viola. They - they used the dead bodies of the Bennetts to spell out ‘You’re next’. We’re going to have a meeting right now. I’ll call you in a bit when I get everyone connected on the phone.”
“One last thing, Viola,” she whispered, “This isn’t your fault dear. None of this is your fault.”
With that the line went dead. I sat on my bed as tears rolled down my cheeks. I had known the Bennetts and they had been nothing but good to me. Now they were dead just like my own family. I began to sob as everything hit me hard. I sat there and cried for several minutes about everything. I cried for my dead family, I cried for the murdered town, I cried for the Bennetts - for everything.
As I began to control myself, the tears stopped. I knew what I had to do, I had to end this war as fast as I could. No one had to die for me anymore, I wouldn’t let them. In my mind I knew that none of this was necessary, the Chamberlain Clan wanted me and only me for an unknown reason.
I had no clue if the prophecy had anything to do with any of this, but I couldn’t put my attention on some passage written on some book. People’s lives were at stake right now and I had to put my heart and soul in that right now. I had to figure out something quick before it was too late and take smart risks.
The phone vibrated in my hand and Meredith’s name popped up on the screen. With a deep breath, I composed myself. I could not show any worry, I had to be a strong leader at times like these. I slowly closed my eyes as I pressed send, my heart slowly pounding in my ears.
“Viola?” Meredith called.
“Yes,” I answered as I opened my eyes again.
“Everyone’s here,” she stated.
“I am very sorry for what has happened, I’m sure you all know,” I spoke sternly with a tone of sadness, “I never meant for anyone to lose their lives because of my return. The Bennetts had been nothing but good to me all these years and it pains me to know I will not be able to celebrate with them once we bring this war to peace. I can only hope that they have not died in vain. I will bring this war to peace and make sure their names are remembered in honor.”
“Let us have a moment of silence for the Bennett Pack,” Arch spoke in a deep voice.
After several minutes of silence, Arch spoke again.
“Now we need to figure out what we are going to do,” he stated, “There is no time to waste.”
“The vampire spy has told us information,” Asher spoke, “Apparently it is worse than we imagined. The Chamberlain Clan’s members have grown in size over the years. They are planning something big, but he doesn’t know what. Only the top members of the Clan know all of the plans. He’s trying his best but he can’t do much without getting caught.”
